Chaps,

The new version of the forum software that I installed today have much better protection against spam registrations, which means that most of those that get through will be genuine and I won't have to spend hours deleting the mainly Russian, Polish and Indonesian spam registrations.

Cheers,

Oliver

Thanks Oliver. much appreciated.

This was my first HB forum, and still the first one I check each day.

Cheers, Rob.

Hi all,

Because of the large volume of spam we were receiving (not the mention the time that it was taking gregb and me to delete) new user registrations now have to be approved by me. This seems to have almost eliminated spam.

We'll look at putting some processes in place so that we can re-enable user activation of accounts but prevent spam accounts being automatically generated by "bots".

Cheers,

Oliver

Greg

The site is being carpet bombed by these w**kers which begs the question have these pathetic little people nothing better else to do with their time other than spawn drivel from their computers to put some jollies into their miserable existence. When they get out of the juvenile bit, if ever, will they look back on their misspent youth and say YEAH YEAH look what we did weren't we clever. I bet they weren't even toilet trained.

These wankers are back again. Sad really that they have nothing better else to do with their pathetic little lives

Greg,
Is there any chance on this forum to do what Brodies does, i.e. to have a moderator approve new members before they can post, or to embargo first time posts until approved?
I know it might be an inconvenience for genuine new members until they are approved, but it might well reduce the spam problem.

It seems that "hkalilinks" memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=4210
wants us to CONSIDERABLY invest in changing our water profiles...

"Lihualee" has a spam-like web address in it's profile, and is posting rubbish.

I know what you mean ben, but at least getting spammed with porn is marginally better than warcraft. Nobody deserves to get spammed by warcraft.

And there are plenty of spammers in this section of the forum, but I seem to only remember one in this thread.
