Re: Coopers Aus Pale Ale

Take your point about the sanitising solution. Just haven't used any for years to be honest. I have never had a problem with my boiling water method and each to their own I guess. No bottles have ever broken in the ten years of doing it this way. Happy brewing to all :D

Re: Coopers Aus Pale Ale

I only ever use glass bottles - mostly Coopers long necks with crown seals but a few screw caps as well along with the larger capped champagne/wine bottles. To sanitise the bottles I use nothing but boiling water as long as the bottles have been cleaned prior (washed out). Two kettles at the same ...

Re: Coopers Aus Pale Ale

The Coopers Pale Ale is my stock standed brew and comes out fine each time. Once enough of that in the cupboard then I try a few different things.

Coopers pale ale can - use their yeast as it comes from SA fairly fresh no major temp difference. Prior to starting anything disolve about a one a a ...

Re: Boags Wizard Ale

Hi there
mid april this year. Tried most of the local beers but thought this one was quite different and easy to drink - most beers are like that anyway. I haven't been able to find it over here in SA yet but will look around. On a review they said it was a limited edition. Is that the case or are ...

Boags Wizard Ale

After a recent holiday to Tasmania I located a very nice beer in the Boags Wizard Smith Ale

Has anyone got a recipe or ideas to make something close to this. It has been described as an english ale in reviews

I agree with alot of the above. Loosen the lid on the fermented beer. Have the wort raised above the second container and the tubing just long enough so it reaches the bottom of the second container. Gravity should do the work without splashing and oxiditation.

Thanks for replys re bulk priming and suger amounts

I have been around the mark with these amounts so hopefully with the new scales I will get an accurate reading. It has only been the last two brews that I have had trouble with as plenty before this have come out fine

For all those suggesting I get a measurer and do individual bottles - I have done ...

Amount of sugar for bulk priming

I have had a few problems with my bulk priming of my last two beers. One being over gased and the other under. I now they have fermented out properly due to the time allowed and checking the readings prior to and after racking it. Having shonky scales hasn't helped, but I have now rectified this ...

I have tried a variety of bottles. I still use the 600 ml coke bottles and have only ever had one go bad. I normally only bottle about 10 plastic bottles and drink these first as like is mentioned I don't think they would last 6 months in the bottle. I then leave the rest of the brew which has been ...

Cascade

Hi All
my local HBS has just got in a range of Cascade and Malt Shovel Brewery Kits. I haven't tried any of these yet and after reading the above post will get one next payday. I put down a Coopers Stout with a Coopers Dark Ale can yesterday (which was payday) as also suggested in another post on ...

Bottle Washer

I'm with you guys about having to clean the kitchen before putting a beer down or cleaning bottles. I too am trying to save water or come up with a different way of sanitising bottles. I have read a few ideas from the posts which I might try.

Dogger,
Do you work? Where do you get the time to learn all this stuff. Seriously how long have you been brewing beers and other stuff for?

FG seems to high

Benji,
I have also had a few problems with the stouts and the FG readings which have remained high. I have just checked up on the last three Coopers stouts I have done and they were

OG 1048 - FG 1012 alc 5%
OG 1054 - FG 1018 alc 5%
OG 1052 - FG 1018 alc 4.75%

Your mixture is similar to what I ...

Oliver's Apple Cider

I am interested in trying one of these apple ciders. Having not done one of these before would someone put me in the right direction or their recipes steps on this site please. I have only stuck to beers and stouts at this stage but wouldn't mind doing the Cider as something different.

Thanks

Flat Beer

The second fermantation is very important. I found this out as a few months back a mate (Prickles) did a batch of Coopers Canadian Blonde. We went thru the second fermantation by keeping them in the loungeroom with a wood heater. After about a week and a half I grabbed my half and put them in my ...

Matty,
Thanks for that. I have measured my FG reading around the 20 to 24 degree mark so would not make much of a difference.

Matty,
You mention about the tempreture affecting the alcohol reading. How does it affect it and what tempreture should you take your FG reading to work out the alcohol percentage. I find that my alcohol is down a bit at times on a few brews.

Dogger,
Don't worry about the ice hockey game. What is going on with the baseball. The playoffs should be coming up. We also have the footy finals over here with only sic teams left.

Coopers Kits

Dave,
my little boy isn't two yet but he knows how to help me make a brew. He helps me make it by doing the stirring, cleans the bottles and checks the tempreture along with making the bubbling sound. Everytime I do a new batch he gets all excited. May not be a good sign.
Good luck with your first ...

Stout

Wazza,
I might try that one as well. I have just put a stout down with the above recipe. I will probably rack it tomorrow and bottle at the end of the week. I will let you know how it goes. I have used a coopers stout base but have done some previous Morgans Dockside Stout and actually prefer them ...
