maturing kegs temperature

Hi all and merry christmas. Can anybody tell me the best way to mature kegs? Will they mature at cold temperatures or not. I have a few american ales that have been filtered and carbed that are in my serving fridge set at 6 degrees. Should I take them out if that will mature them quicker?

Re: bought pressurised kegs

It is great pouring from the tap not having to worry about having to wash bottles and such. Just wish I had been told about the dangers of kegs under pressure. Will be checking any future kegs bought for pressurization. Relief valve seems so simple in hindsight.

bought pressurised kegs

Bought some kegs yesterday. Took the lids off 3 of the 4 without any trouble but the 4th one I couldn't push down. Anyway I decided to use my ring spanner to undo the gas connection. Got a massive release of pressure as i got it off. Then I realised the gas post was gone on that one. Must have shot ...

Re: Leftover grain

I put old grain that hadn't been used on the garden for fertilizer. A week later I notice snails everywhere eating my mint. Today I read snails are attracted to beer. Nice one lol.

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale

Hi,
To answer why you need malt for a starter-from Brewing Classic Styles by Jamil Zainasheff and John Palmer

'It is important to use malt based sugars for your starter. Do not use table sugar, corn sugar or honey or they will cause the yeast to quickly lose the ability to ferment maltose, the ...

Mountain Goat Pale Ale Extinction

That's right. Mountain Goat Pale ale no longer being made. Hard to find it in Brissie but I bought a few cases and thought it was great. Probably my favourite boutique beer at the moment. Hope the beer replacing it will be as good and available up here.

brewing in a cube

Does anyone see any problems with brewing in cubes? I've read that people use them for lagering in secondary but not found reference to anyone using them as primary. Maybe there will be headspace problems??? I'm considering buying a chest freezer so I can up production and the one in looking at will ...

undisowning beer

Hi all,
Made a brew about this time last year. Was a coopers real ale with fuggles trying to copy the hightail ale. After I brewed it I thought it wasn't good but had one today and it's great. I had meant to chuck them all out but haven't been bothered. Laziness pays off again. I now mean to enjoy ...

Re: mouldy caps

Yeah I sanitised with iodophor. I store my beers in styrofoam boxes from the local fruit store. They have a lid and seal pretty well also it rained for a couple of days after bottling so that may have something to do with it.

mouldy caps

Hi all,
I bottled my stout about 5 days ago and went to check on it today. This was the first time I sterilised the caps but I didn't let them dry before I used them. The caps had mold on them when I checked today. I opened one of them to check if the mould was on the underside and it wasn't. Good ...

hops astringency

Hi all,
I tried to make an IPA based on a kit and 1.5kg llme. There were 25g perle 1 hour 15g goldings 15min 15g goldings 2 min. All I can taste is the extreme bitterness. Should I not be bittering kits? If I used unhopped liquid malt would that still be too much bittering. It has only been in the ...

Re: NEW TO BREWING - UNIMPRESSED WITH LOCAL HBS

I live in brisbane and work in beenleigh and could never get home to my local hbs after work before it shut. So I tried the hbs store in beenleigh and he gave me one a beer that he'd made. First time I'd been offered a beer in a hbs. I was stoked. I guess theres alot of variation in attitudes for ...

crap rubber taste

Hi fellas,
Hows it going
Me not well. The last three batches I made have had a horrible taste of rubber in them. Ok the first one I dropped the grommet into so that is expected but the other two made in different fermenters i don't know. Maybe water from the water filter, bad yeast (safales04 ...
