i reckon it's a pretty good drop MJ. it's simple,quick and tastes good. i might give your lemon version a go just for the hell of it.

2 small limes cut them into chunks,chuck them in and ferment as normal,works every time and tastes great.

yep you are right but for us with limited knowledge and tools we don't have too many choices and bottle shop prices at around $50.00 a bottle....well it's still cheap

i originally purchased a 5 litre reflux still which was only good for about 65% (price was a big factor) and i gradually modified it and now it's producing between 85-90% everytime.

This is my bourbon recipe
10-15 grams of jack daniels wood chip per litre and soak for seven days then filter (i use a high tech filter...a funnel with a tissue jammed in it)
