Ashamed it's been so long!
I don't know why, but I stopped making homebrew  soon after getting preg with #2, and looking at my activity, my last post was March 2007! Unbelievable. I got a advert from the HBS in Ballarat the other day which prompted my thoughts about this craft. So now I am feeling very ashamed at ...

Alcoholic Sarsaparilla
I have just made my first batch of alcoholic sarsaprilla. I used the Old Fashioned brand (purple and white cardboard tin). My SG was 1.016. If it finishes where the labels says it should, I will get an expected Alc% of 0.5% Ha ha ha.....
Hope it tastes good, because brewing it for its alcoholic ...

I always believed that Sarsaparilla (or Root Beer) were made from the sarsaparilla vine (using the dried roots). The effects of this particular plant ( Smilax regelii and other closely related species) are purported to be hugely beneficial in a number of health related areas, including liver detox ...

So very slack..
I haven't made any beer over the whole summer period. TBH, I just couldn't be bopthered with the whole ice thing and I couldn't keep the fermenter below 28 - 30 degrees. So I just gave up. Bit of a pathetic excuse really.
BUT!

Oooh, I'm glad this is here...I was just coming on to ask!
I have a stout that I bottled on 2/9/06. I put into mainly 650ml bottles. On advice from here, I carbonated with dex 1/2 teaspoon (small end of measurer) into each bottle. I tried one last night and although the taste is definately getting ...

OK. SG is a constant (1.012) so I am going to bottle later on today. Fingers crossed a bit of time in the bottle improves it.
It might be my imagination (or my hopes) but I think that it tastes better today than even the other day. Maybe I had a lot of crude on the bottom of the fermenter that got ...

Advice on a wheat beer
Hi all,
I have a Morgans Golden Sheath Wheat Beer in the fermenter atm and it is now 8 days. Air lock has been bubbling merrily (although I do know not to put heaps of faith in the air lock  ), but things have been going along ok. I measured SG tonight for first time since laying down the ...

Flashbeer Advert..what a cack!
Seen it? Cripes I thought it was good! :D
For those that haven't seen it, it is a rip off of Flashdance, but instead of a young trim girl trying to get into dance academy, it is a largish male trying to woo the selection panel into giving him a brewers job at Carlton Draught.
