The Sassy Red, I may have posted about it before - it is a great beer. It does indeed have a nice red tinge to it, and full of saaz hops, I have tried it out of tap at many pubs back home in NZ and out of bottle. I would say off the keg makes it that much nicer...
I would probably say it is in the ...

Mac's Hop Rocker
I just found this after looking for Mac's products in all Dan Murphys, and 20 or so other bottle shops, my flatmate finds it at the supermarket/bottlo just down the road that I never have been to figuring it was not a serious botle shop

Re: Beer in Melbourne
Thanks for this Chadjaja- I never knew of this either. I thought Acland Cellars was where it was at... this place looks awesome for beers and wine. Definitely heading this way myself when I am next in Melbourne (this weekend actually - wicked).

1st Choice you say...
Righto.. know where I am headed this weekend.
They are pushing Montieths in my corner of Sydney at the moment - I want to see them push Mac's... it would be great to have some pubs with it on tap.

Re: Beer in Japan
Earle,
Being a kiwi - and going back 1-2 times a year, I can say that there are lots of good places to check out for beers. Speights have set up lots of Speights Ale Houses now... which have the whole range on tap... the Gold Medal Ale, or Speights as it is referred to is stuff made for uni ...

They destroy me too...I dont mind them as a nice, light, crisp beer but shy away from them nowadays....
I have no idea - but I also put Tooheys Extra Dry and Crownie into the same basket. The only thing I can see is the Dry Enzyme they use, to make them a dry beer...

Re: Microbrewery - Question
If you are trying to replicate Melbourne Bitter or Tooheys New, then perhaps that is the reason why it tastes like shite. Try a pilsner or a good ale clone with nice hops instead of Pride of Ringwood and a can of Tooheys extract and perhaps the results will improve...

$450 a stubbie...
I think they actually doubt the pull of beer - I think there will be a queue for this... sure it's over-priced, and a gimmick, but $450 for a beer isnt unheard of - and it all comes down to the market. They are right, if people pay $10K for a champers, why wouldnt someone pay $450 for a beer? I am ...

Re: So young, so naive: How has your taste in beer matured?
I grew up in a household where, whilst I knew early on in life I found my drink of choice for life (beer) - My dad bought a beer I did not like, DB Export Dry. It was awful, and now no longer exists in NZ (no surprises). At school/uni when I could get hold of beer myself I drank DB Export gold...it ...

Re: What to put in with Ginger Beer... & Gravities for dummies
Excellent. OK - Well I will add in the IPA then.
Get the gravity issue now too thanks... I dont quite understand how it will stop the hops from imparting bitterness, but regardless I will be putting in around 20g of Cascade for 30 mins, and perhaps about 10g of Amarillo for 10 mins to 5L, so I will ...

What to put in with Ginger Beer... & Gravities for dummies
Hi, I am going to put down a ginger beer today - but put in some LLME, or similar. Question is, I have 4 tins of Coopers PA - reckon I could use that instead? I also have a tin of Indian PA, which I dont know what to do with - so I could use that instead...

Re: Beer in Japan
There is a few microbreweries - there is one in Nikko, "Nikki Beer" which is about 1.5 hours north of Tokyo (you need to take a bullet train for an hour and then a conventional train for about 30 minutes) - a pretty nice beer, although to be fair anything is nice after drinking Asahi from the can ...

Re: Clone Brews
Sensational thank you.
Yes - forgot to add - My favourite beer is actually Budvar, but then Urquell after that. I like Urquell due to the fact that it is only 4.4% also... its good for a "lighter" beer. I also have been enjoying Trumer Pils recently too. Overall, a good crisp Pils, with its lovely ...

The researchers collected information on the drinking and exercise habits of nearly 12,000 men and women aged 20 years or older between 1981 and 1983.
Over the next 20 years, some 1,200 of the participants died from heart disease and about 5,900 died from other causes.

Re: What are you guys drinking for Xmas?
Just thought I would post back on the outcome of the beer tasting back in NZ
The standout as a summer quaffer was the Mac's Sundance Summer Ale... it was great - with the Riwaka hop and lemongrass it was a nice, light beer with plenty of flavour though. I don't think I have tried the Riwaka Hop ...

Yeah.. last night I went for Red wine - choices on the flight were VB or Crown. I have had a VB before when I really needed a beer, but what got my goat was the guy next to me who scoffed like I was some sort of heathen and felt so great getting a Crown.... You'll be in Christchurch then, yeah? I didn't think much of the Dux's ginger beer to be honest; the stout was very good though (this was in Queenstown tho). I've heard a good place to go is " The Tap " on the Avon somewhere. They have the Monteith's range on tap and have a tasting wheel of 7 beers ...
