Dont want to buy a mill till I know all grain is really for me. If I buy my grain crushed and store it in food grade white buckets, how long will it last me

cracked grain will store pretty much the same as biscuits. If your container is airtight & kept cool, the grain will keep fine for ...

2 most important factors to great beer IMHO are Temperature control & FRESH, FRESH, FRESH ingredients.
I'm devasted that i wasted so much time in my early days of brewing using Cr@p hops & not knowing any difference.
The quality of available supplies has lifted dramitcally in the last 2 years ...

I'm leaving mine for at least 14 days, so I've racked after day 7. With lager yeasts I know the old cake can add odd ...

Re: Best Selection of Beers In Brisbane

For those in Brissie, if you're interested in the Malt Shovel Mad Brewers 10/20 Commemorative Ale then swing by the Platform Bar. It's not a cheap drop though, at $20 a tally. 8% and very malty, it's a sweet beer with a dominant caramel aroma. Despite the strength, it goes down a lot smoother than ...

I don't know about all of you, but I have been drinking beer for 35 years, and I have NEVER had a home brew beer that tastes anywhere near as good as the stuff you get from the woolloongabba shop!!

In fact on TV a few months ago, they had these international beer judges, and they where blind ...

For my mind, sanitisres / sterilisers are meant to kill micro-organisms, yeast is a micro-organism!

Mick,

Starsan, my non-rinse sanitiser of choice, actually becomes a yeast nutrient once mixed with wort, so you need have no fears of it attacking your friendly yeasties 8 ...

Re: To rinse or not to rinse

Pete,

Get yourself a good non-rinse sanitiser. As you suspected, rinsing with water afterwards can undo all your hard work.
However, if you are topping up your fermenter with tap water, then a late rinse of water is going to make no difference to your ferment. Still a good practise though to start ...

Hi Cadbury,

it's a fixed delivery cost up to 25kg to the gold Coast from our shop ($7.90) from memory.
We can send down recipies all cracked & prepacked ready to go. we have several GC customers that order 3 to 4 recipies at a time...

Re: Theres something hairy growing on me beer!

Fingers crossed you wont have any more problems....

But if you want to increase your chances of infection free beer STOP RACKING IT.
Unless you have a real need to change vessels, all you are doing is increasing the chances of this sort of infection.

If you don't want over fizzy ales do not gas at 100kpa, that's bordering on lager territory.
50 to 70kpa for ales.

Re: Brew pot

Hey all,

I'd like to start doing some partials and am getting a big water cooler for the mash, I am also looking at a 40ltr aluminium pot for boiling it is a reasonable price at $107.00, the question is. Is aluminium ok?

The link to the pot is here http://www.underpressure.com.au/web-content ...
