Re: Making and storing liquid yeast starters.
I bought some test tubes and a rack off e-bay and split my liquid yeast into 6 with one-fifth into each test-tube and the sixth into a brew (I use the smack-pack liquid for this 1st brew). I then make a starter with the contents of the test-tube when required in a baby feeding bottle with 200ml of ...

Is the Inner West of Sydney becoming a dry area
In the past year or so 3 HBSs have closed in the IW of Sydney, Countrybrewer in Drummoyne, Brewcraft in Rozelle and Brewhaus in Marrickville. Its like the Bermuda triangle around here and I now have no Kegsonlegs bottle swap option near me :(
Is anyone else finding that the local HBS is dieing out ...

Whats Your staple brew?
I've got a 2 tap set-up and for ages I've been trying different brews without actually settling on a "house" beer. I now want to try liquid yeasts so that sort of forces me to stick with one beer for a while if I want to get six brews from the one yeast pack.
My idea now is to have one "House" beer ...

Thanks for that, surprised at how low my alcohol is. Thought Hoegaarden was meant to be about 5%

Re: The great Hoegaarden clone - in progress
ok. so I've brewed this beer and must say it tastes good from the barrel. I've just kegged it so looking forward to trying it for "real".
My question is what OG and FG does everyone get with this brew. I started at 1.046 and finished 2 weeks later at 1.016 - alcohol approx 4.1%. Does this seem about ...

Re: Thomas Cooper IPA- What to do with the kit
You boiled the kit???
In the words of Trough Lolly from a different post...
Boiling a kit concentrate will however knock out some of the hop flavour and aroma - which is fine if you have a kit but don't like their hop additions and want to change the beer's hop profile with extra hops. If you do ...

Re: Thomas Cooper IPA- What to do with the kit
I made this kit a few weeks ago with a nice simple recipe.
Boil half of the can with 2litres of water for 10 minutes.
Add 1kg Megabooster (500g LDME, 250g dextrose and 250g maltodextrin) and 15g willamette hops for another 5 minutes.
Put the boil and remainder of can into your fermenter and make up ...

Thinking of trying a new carbonation method
Hi All
Currently when I'm kegging I use the "Ross Method" of force carbonation whenever I keg a beer. This beer then goes into storage under the house until I'm ready to drink it - fully carbed.
I'm now thnking of doing the following.
Put the beer into an empty keg
Purge with CO2
Store the beer ...

Liquid Yeast - Help
OK, just spent the past half an hour trawling through the site but "no cigar".
Just some quickies as I have been tempted to try liquid yeast. I'm not into AG so most of my brews are based on a kit. Dont really have a regular type of beer, it changes every brew but generally I have a lager in one ...

Cheers Chris, it was a finished brew. Just plugged my numbers in and get 1010, nearer the mark and possibly some difference caused by the OG reading.
