Monteith's make a Summer Ale as well, which the girls seem to drink alot of. I much prefer the Celtic Red whenever I'm over the ditch.

Water

Simple topic.

I use plain, boring but clean Melbourne tap water but my mate was appalled as he buys 2 12L water cans form the Supermarket.

With the discussion about tap v bottled water and the fact that you might be paying $12 for something inferior to tap water, what is the general consensus ...

Cheers...yeah they were green to start with although not the same green as the eventual liquid.

I chucked in the Black Rock can first, then the 300ml boiled hops, then the brew blend, then the hot water and it looked the way it should.

Thanks guys....

I probably could have waited longer to pitch the yeast, but here's hoping it should be OK.

Well, I brewed this yesterday.

According to the instructions which were linked in this thread, I was supposed to boil the hops pellets then let simmer for 2 minutes in 300ml of water.

I did this.

The hops went a off-putting green colour.

Is this what's supposed to happen?

Measuring OG

Hi guys,

Did a brew yesterday and measured the OG before storing in the light box.

The temp of the liquid from memory was about 26 when I measured it and got a reading of 1044.

Should I be waiting for the liquid temp to drop before I measure OG or is that not an issue to be worrying about?

When I lived in the UK, I played rugby. One of our rugby trips was to Lithuania and we were given a drink called a Church Window.

The English version of this drink is:

One pint of beer
3 shots of vodka
1 shot of Port

You drink the pint enough to be able to put the all the vodka into it but still ...

If this one doesn't work out, I might not go back.

Plus I'm a relative newbie at home brewing....

I didn't know whether to open it as I might not be doing it for a few days and I don't know if this stuff likes the open air.

It probably the same size as rabbit dung though!

Brewcraft Kits

I went down to the local Homebrew shop for the first time to replace the hydromoter.

While I was there, I saw a Brewcraft pack for Little Creatures Pale Ale (which I like alot!)

It came with the can, Safale yeast No.4, brewblend no 15 and another sachet of some sort of pellets in it. I checked ...
