Hi Warra
Have you tried the rochfort 10 at all? I remember it being probably my favourite beer in belgium (if any normal person can choose!).
Enjoy your trip.

Re: Deliverance Kits
I have boiled all the water for this brew in a effort to boil off the chlorine from tap water, does anyone else bother doing this ?
Hi Bilgerat

Re: Chilly and Cheerful AG or Partial Eurolager?
Sweet, thanks Doc. I'll do exactly that and let you know how it goes.
I also made this on Sunday, felt like getting creative a little.
2kg Coopers Light dry malt
0.3 kg Caramunich I
0.1kg Carapils
0.1kg Dark Crystal (BTW I have been calling this crystal 120 in brewmate, is that right?)
0.05kg ...

Re: Chilly and Cheerful AG or Partial Eurolager?
Hi guys
Luckily, I was looking at making a german-esque lager today when I came across this thread.
This is what I am going with.
3 kg Morgans extra light malt extract (2 cans)
5g Northern Brewer (GER) 15% @ 60mins
10g Halletau aroma 8.4% @ 20mins
10g Halletau aroma 8.4% @ 10mins

Re: Does this recipe sound right?
Hi mate
I'm no expert but that recipe looks fine to me. You will definately come out with beer at the end!
Its hard to judge what it'll taste like without knowing what the hops are and their AA%, but I wouldn't worry too much about that just yet.
Good to hear people all over getting the bug!

Hi sonny
I am chasing around for a porter recipe that makes me happy. I'm looking for something akin to speights old dark.
DrSmurto mentioned that carafa special I, II or III is an excellent specialty grain to add for those looking to make a porter. Maybe give that a crack?

Hi Dave
This may or may not reach you too late. There is a really informative sticky on making yeast starters and reusing yeast in the making beer section of the forum. It might answer your questions.
Cheers

Re: Recommended thermometer?
Aha, I think I understand now. I was trying to avoid having to buy any extra cords and so was looking for a solution that could run off the power cable of my chest freezer.
Time to do it properly I think.
Thanks for the advice matr and mick, hopefully this'll be enough info to get it working ...

Re: Porter Recipe
Well I know what'll be going in my next porter recipe then. What is the difference between I, II or III?
The reason there is no choc malt in this one is that apparently I forgot to order it from craftbrewer with the rest of my stuff. I certainly wanted it there but when I opened the bag, no choc ...

Re: Porter Recipe
I agree, brewmate is pretty awesome so far.
In the end I also backed the dark crystal off to 300g after weighing it out and realising I don't want toooooo much of that flavour. A little will be good, but too much I think will overpower the beer and maybe make it too one dimensional.
Cant wait ...

Re: Porter Recipe
Thanks Warra
Thinking I'll remove the caramunich completely then, and back the crapils to 100g.
I'll do the same with the black malt and go to 100g.
Honestly I don't really know what hops suit the porter style, and I'm limited by what hops I actually have on hand.
Thanks again for the input, I ...

Time to revive an old thread.
I'm on the hunt for an all extract speights old dark recipe.
I popped in to my local HBS and managed to find a can of morgans roasted malt extract.
I did some reading online, one website states that the 5 malts are: lager, crystal, caramalt, chocolate and roasted ...

Cheers, had better put it down and see then. Haven't picked up the hops yet so I'll check it and compensate accordingly.
Will let you know how it turns out.
