Re: Yeastie Boys - Rex Attitude

I definitely recommend trying it. It was too peaty/smoky for me though and I did struggle to get through the whole beer.

Re: Yeastie Boys - Rex Attitude

Very interesting beer. Tastes like an ash tray filled with water though.

Re: Best Selection of Beers In Brisbane

I haven't made it out to the 5th Element but it definitely sounds like a goer. Being just down the road from the train station is encouraging too.

As for the platform, here are the latest taps:

S&W Ale
S&W Lager
Hoegaarden
JS Amber
JS Golden
Pipsqueak Cider
Duke Pale Ale
LC Rogers

Re: The Brewhouse - Brisbane CBD

I thought I'd bump this a bit, anyone heard any recent news?

I was really hoping to see a Brewhouse rebirth during Feb but that's gone and past now.

There is a FB page dedicated to bringing back the Brewhouse but that's lacking in news as well:

Re: Coopers Clear

I'll agree with you there writhty. I've sampled the Clear and a number of other low carb beers and the word I'd use to describe them is lacking. They have beer ingredients in them but they're just missing something.

As for the Coopers Pale. I'd hardly call it swill. It's definitely not as ...

Re: Coopers Clear

I don't blame Coopers for trying to get in on the market. It's simple business to offer a certain type of product when there is high demand for it.

As long as Coopers keep going with the old faithfuls (pale, sparkling and best extra) then I won't complain.

Mad Brewers Orchard Ale... perfect drop for this disgustingly hot day.

Re: La Fin du Monde

The news of Unibroue's cease of exports saddens me. I only just recently experienced The End of the World and have yet to try their other beers.

My favourite wheat beer out there.

If you live in Brisbane you can get it easily at Nectar and the Drinx bottleshop under central station.

Re: "Girly" Beer

I've heard about the Hummingbird but haven't seen it anywhere.

If it's a lager I'd imagine it's something similar to a Corona, blandly inoffensive so almost anyone cane drink it.

They've been swapping between the Dunkel and Dark Ale the last few times I've been there.

Can't remember what the 8th tap was, don't think it was a new drop though.

Re: Best Selection of Beers In Brisbane

I made it in there last night, memory of the beer list is a little vague though.

Little Creatures Rogers
Little Creatures Pale Ale
Little Creatures White Rabbit
Feral Hop Hog
Stone & Wood Draught Ale
Burleigh Brewer's Ale
Sunshine Coast Dark Lager
Monteith's Original Ale

I think that's all of them.

I should be heading to the Platform again on Friday so hopefully they'll still have some going then.

Re: Best Selection of Beers In Brisbane

I had a chance to try the Feral Hop Hog at the Platform today. I'm a big fan of the American pale ale and this one definitely delivered. Big cascade aroma and initial flavour finishing with a nice balancing bitterness.

Unfortunately they'd run out of the Big Helga though :(

Re: Best Selection of Beers In Brisbane

If anyone is interested in some Matilda Bay Sebastian Reserve you can get a bottle for $10 at the First Degree bar. I had a chance to enjoy a few glasses earlier this week and really enjoyed it.

Re: XXXX Summer Bright Lager

Finally got to taste this tonight.

The nose on this beer is quite fruity and certainly not what I expected. The flavour very mildly reflects the aroma, it's still a rather bland beer in comparison to the good stuff out there.

That being said, I am surprised something like this has come out of XXXX ...

XXXX Summer Bright Lager

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/lifestyle/summer-daze-xxxx-goes-low-carb-20090910-fimp.html

Big surprise, VB brings out Raw and XXXX is not far behind with something similar. I seriously doubt this could be considered a boutique beer, it seems to me it will simply be a low carb corona.

Anyone had ...

If they used saaz hops in that beer then they dredged it through the bottom of carlton cold fermenter first.
