Re: How to use high activity carbon??
I to am filtering with active carbon and an inline filter because it is what came in the kit and and might as well use it up and not waste money, then i will be buying an Essenia filter. I soak my distilled and spirit which has been watered down to 40% with 10g/L for the first 2 days and then add 5g ...

Re: Tap or Distilled water
Just plain tap water is fine, but this will depend on where you live. Some water is harder than others and may give some unwanted tastes. Up here in Cairns the water is fine to use.

I weird question, but i need to find out how much 5g of cabon is without using scales. Digital scales are anywhere from $100.00 upwards. I was hoping if someone knew what sort of measurement was equal to 5g of granual carbon. (EG. 1 teaspoon, 1 tablespoon ect) Could someone please help.

Re: making spirits?
My local home brew guy sells the StillSprits brand and they have been made especially for alcohol and the instructions says that there is no need to make cuts so long as you follow there instructions.

Re: making spirits?
You can always use an air still. No water required. Distill 4L at a time and you don't have to worry about getting the water flow right to maintain the correct temperature.

Re: When is my Gas bottle Empty
A normal 6.5kg should carb and dispense about 50 kegs before it needs to be refilled, as long as you don't have any leaks. The best way to see if your keg is empty is to weigh it. It should have 2 weights stamped on the side of it. One will be the empty weight and one will be the full. As for ...

Re: Gas, Keg's and the great Furphy
I to have a 2 keg/tap system. I chill for 24 hours, carb @ 300KPA for 24 hours and pour at 50KPA. Never had a problem, don't waste any beer and if it is just me and a couple of mates having a few i don't need to turn the gas on as there is enough head pressure in the keg.

Re: Newbie Advice needed.
I chill mine for 24 hours and then gas for 24 hours at 300kpa. I have never had under or over gassed beer. A bit more accurate than rocking it.

Dual Regulator
I am hoping someone can help me. I need to set up a dual regulator system so a can pour and carbonate at the same time. Craftbrewer can't get any add-ons for micromatic regulators from the states. Is it easy enough to remove the high pressure gauge from the regulator which is going to be connected ...

I have also found that if you only make them up to 20L instead of the recommended 23 and add some malt and hops you will also get more flavor.

Re: Blue Sky Brewery - Cairns
I to live in Cairns and went there last week and discovered that some of the beers were a bit watery. I did like the Woody and the Stout though, but the beer with the ginger infused was not to my liking. I do however like the idea of the tasting paddles. It is a good way to discover what beer you ...

I have also just brew a JSAA, but i used the Safale 04 yeast. I am noticing that it actually kegs/bottles clear. I will never use kit yeast again. Saf is the way to go. I would recommend saflager SW-34/70 for winter brewing.

Re: Dry hop bag
I am only new to brewing and have just purchased a kit including hops. The bloke at the homebrew shop said that if a wanted more flavor to boil the hops for about 20mins and add them :!: to the fermenter before adding the yeast. Should i look at putting the boiled hops in a bag or just tip straight ...

Re: Couldn't help myself
The other thing you could do is buy a regulator add on. This allows you to have 2 different styles of beer at different pouring pressures. Here a link where you could purchase one.

Thanks for that. The last thing I need is to tip out beer because of infection. Besides a little cloudiness never hurt anyone.
