Re: Fridge or chest freezer?

A chest freezer will use a *lot* less power.

My Kegerator based around a F&P chest freezer:

Re: NS Ale - Will this work?

I now brew all-grain, but the Coopers Sparkling Ale brewed to the recommended recipe, but using Coopers pale ale harvested yeast and fermented around 18-19 degrees, remains my favourite kit brew.

What I meant was to use the ingredients as specified on the tin.

I agree that Coopers fermentation instructions can be improved upon, particularly with regards to temperature.

Is that your point of contention DrSmurto?

Re: NS Ale - Will this work?

Personally I wouldn't use the Sparkling Ale. There are enough complex flavours in there already, such that you may end up with something quite funky.

Harvest some Coopers bottle yeast and ferment the Sparkling Ale exactly as the can instructs. It's a winner, and a house favourite here.

Re: newbie

Others seem to really like the Blue Mountain Lager. Personally I didn't like it, and ended up tipping 3/4 of the keg into the garden after a few months of slow movement. In fact, i'm yet to find a Morgans kit that I like, having tried quite a few.

Re: How much beer can one make/drink?

I love brewing, so i'm more than happy if people come around and drink my beer.

In fact, I encourage people to drink as much of my beer as they want, as it allows me to brew more, and I love brewing as much as I love drinking. This is even more so since I started kegging, because kegging beer is ...

I run Beersmith via Parallels on my Mac.

I tried out most (all?) of the Mac brewing options, and in the end decided Beersmith via Parallels was the best option.

Re: Cooper Pale Ale

I concur that the yeast is the critical element, and the more the merrier.

I started with the yeast from three longnecks, which i've now built and split into a bunch of sterile lab tubes.

Re: Please post Keg/Kegerator set-up photos please..

Ahh, thanks Rob. I ended up purchasing a Fisher and Paykel model today, about 165 litres. It'll nicely fit four kegs with a collar.

Hopefully i'll post pics in a few weeks when I get her setup.

Re: The great Hoegaarden clone - in progress

Is there, or is there likely to be, a reasonable dried yeast option for this recipe?

I'm thinking of the new Munich dry yeast.

Re: The great Hoegaarden clone - in progress

Kudos to everyone who developed this recipe.

I've had mine in the bottle for almost a month now, and a bunch of blokes I had over for a drinking session yesterday were thoroughly impressed with the product.

Even a non wheat-beer drinker was asking for more.

Re: Perfecting the Stella clone...

then I'd suggest you leave the kits well alone, grab some pale malt extract and boil the extract with plenty of Saaz...You might pay a bit more but you wont have to worry about the PoR peeking through when you pour the first glass.

And you don't necessarily have to pay more either.
