Re: Coffee Addition to a Stout

The head is actually a tan colour, not brown as such but definitely not white.

The flash on the camera has made it look white. Not sure how to get a white head on a stout a la guinness. They roast their own barley and if i was to hazard a guess i would suspect they may even steep it separately and ...

Re: The Tooheys Challenge

Depends on what you like in the way of lagers.

Therein lies the rub. Being in QLD and not having a temp-controlled fridge, I don't do many lagers. My only experience thus far is with a Coopers Euro Lager mid-strength (no comments on the mid-strength part please  )

Coopers European Lager ...

Does the flaked oats provide the whiter colour of the head?

I've made a lot of the Coopers Best Extra Stout recipe which I really like but the head is a brown. I would love a white head on it.

Re: The Tooheys Challenge

Thanks Timmy

That's what I thought based on the Mountain Goat recipe here.

In hindsight I probably will make a Tooheys Old with the Dark Ale.

The lager remains a problem to solve.....

The Tooheys Challenge

Given the price, I couldn't help but buy some Toohey's kits when Coles were selling off their homebrew section. I didn't think about what I would actually make from them and now comes the challenge.

Suggestions appreciated

Tooheys Classic Dark Ale (I'm thinking of using this as a base for Wassas ...

Re: Slow start to Coopers Euro Lager?

Thanks guys. I thought that might be the case but always best to check when unsure.

I brewed one ofthese last year which came out quite nice but the temps were a little bit cooler. When I planned this one I hadn't checked the weather forecast and we've had a bit of a spike in the temperature with ...

Slow start to Coopers Euro Lager?

I don't do many lagers as QLD temps lend themselves to ales with the warm winters we have. I have put down a Coopers Euro Lager and at teh same time a Cerveza and a Real Ale. Air temp is aorund 15 - 17 in the kitchen. Both the Real Ale and the Creveza are going fine but I'm not sure if the Euro ...

Coles - getting out of home brew?

My HBS told me Coles are getting out of home brew. I have been to a few Coles in recent days and stock is not only cheap but very low. Bargains to be had?

Re: Coopers Best Extra Stout

I really love this beer but unfortunately the bathroom scales have become a little more worn out after a few more months drinking it.

I am considering cutting back on the malt to .5kg of dark and light. Apart form loweirng the alcohol and calory content, what effect will this have on it as beer ...

Cider Breweries in Tasmania

I'm going to Tassie for the first time at the end of September for a few days. We will mainly be spending our time in Hobart. I was wondering if anyone can recommend some local cider makers to visit so I can sample some nice cider. I don't mind driving for an hour or so to get there.

English Bitter Mistake

I was planning to make two Coopers Best Extra Stouts. Made the first one and boiled up everything for the second, went for the can of stout and .... oops! Only Coopers English Bitter left.

This is what ended up going in -

• 1 coopers English Bitter tin
• 1 kg Dark Dry Malt Extract
• .5 kg ...

Coopers international series - cheap?

Just went down to the local Coles (Fairfiled, Brisbane) and they had the Coopers International range at 10.69, which is as far as I am aware, the price for the 'normal' range. Looks like a mistake to me (approximately $3 discount) so I availed myself of a few cans.
