Re: Racking Beer?

So, there's been a slight hitch in my lagering plan. I bought a tempmate / temprite on my way home today and in my haste to install it, punctured a gas line on my beer fridge.

Not only that, I haven't really treated this beer with the care it deserved. Temps have been a bit high since the start ...

Re: Racking Beer?

Yeah, sorry :-)

Would 8 weeks been too long of a period to leave it before bottling? Would cubing it be a better option?

Re: Racking Beer?

So I'm keen to rack a lager I've got fermenting at the moment. How long is too long to rack for? I've got a spare fridge and spare fermenter to use.

Reason I ask is I will he going to Melbourne in 3 weeks and if I wait until fermentation is complete I would be racking the week before I leave.

Re: What are you brewing?

Thanks heaps fellas. I'll keep an eye on the hydro readings and do some more reading myself.

As I said, the bloke at the LHBS pretty much shrugged his shoulders. Might look further afield next time.

Cheers once again,
Chris

So do you reckon at the steady temp of 18 deg it would be done by Wednesday this week? I tried a bit and it was slightly fizzy. Had a decent head on it, was fairly bitter though.

Re: 1st brew

Just took an SG reading after just over 7 days brewing and it read at 1012. Not sure if this is good or not but ill give it another check tomorrow.

Quick question on bottling into say 500ml bottles. 1 or 2 carbonating tablets?

cheers and beers,
Chris

Re: 1st brew

Hey Oliver,
Yeah the kit is a coopers kit. Ive got a towel on standby to keep the heat in if it does get too cool but it seems to be hovering around the 20-22 mark. Any clear way of reading those stick on thermometers? Which is the actual temp? The blue part or the greenish/brown part?

Cheers and ...

Re: 1st brew

Pitched it at what i thought was about 26 deg(according to the kit directions, this was ok). Im not too convinced on that stick on thermometer. Might have to get something a little more accurate. Temps inside the house are normally in the region of 16 - 20 deg overnight i estimate, garage would get ...

1st brew

Hey all,
Just put down my 1st brew. i just brewed the lager that came with the home brew kit. Included the brew enhancer no1 and the packet yeast. Not a great move i know but it will give me a "control" to judge my subsequent brews off of. The fermenter has changed a bit from the old screw lid ...

Wanted - Empty glass bottles Rockingham

Hey folks, im after a bunch of glass bottles to get established to brew. I have the pet for the time being but ideally want to replace these with glass. Prefer crown seal and even better would be Grolsch swing tops if available.

Pm or reply here.

Cheers and beers!

Re: Common question: My brew is not fermenting

Hi all. Couple of questions about my bew.

Saturday mornign i put down a brewcraft mexican cerveza, 1kg of dex and used the packet yeast.
Pitched at 26c.
Not much bubble action, so i think i have a leak, however, i got some strange sg readings today.

When i pitched it read at 1040, spot on i though ...

1kg dex
Added 15g perle hops too.

initial sg 1040. Tastes sweet, then a little bit bitter aftertaste. Hope it turns out ok.

This is only my second brew and my first was crap. I think i left it in the fermenter too long, then i racked it without ...

Re: Brewing BERRI fruit Juice...

if you didnt want to make up say 5-10 litres of the stuff, could you modify the lid of a 2l bottle to take a grommet and airlock and just add the yeast to the bottle with a bit more sugar to keep the sweetness in it?

What would be the best yeast to use? Would like to give this a go, but dont want ...
