Thanks for all the replies guys, I have just made a nice little storage area for my fermenters next to my hot water cylinder and temps seem pretty stable in there.

Now to get to work :D

Cheers....

My HBS sells replacement fermenter lids with a submersible fish tank style heater attached, they are thermostatically controlled and can heat to any desired temp.

They are priced reasonably in comparrison to the other heating options.

Might get a couple for next winter :D

Sounds good Wassa.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but how does one dry hop?

My local HBS sell the hops you mention in pellet form.

Also would there be any benefit in using grain with these recipes?

cheers...

I have a can of both Cooper's Australian Pale Ale and Cooper's Bitter and would like some recipe sugestions please.

Is the kit yeast ok or do you recommend something better?

*Update*

Well....last night I opened a cascade spicey ghost draught and to my surprise, it has finally matured into a nice beer.

I say finally because its taken like 5 months to get there (nearly tipped it down the sink a couple of times)

I have had samples along the way and was dissapointed ...

If using coopers PET bottles, don't use hot water as the bottles will lose shape from the heat :D

Why is my beer flat?

I have recently opened a few brews that were about 5-6 weeks old and they are nearly dead flat and have no head.

What might be causing my beer to be flat?

They are bottled in coopers 740ml pet bottles and were primed with dextrose.

The flavour is ok, but being nearly completly flat makes for an ...

I used white sugar on my first brew and got a cidery/fruity taste, after using better ingredients like dextrose and malt, the taste improved heaps.

I might have to try and get my hands on some different stubbies, the cascade ones I have can be easily opened with just my thumb and index finger, without really trying, nothing like when they were first opened....

Thanks for the replies...

I guess I will just try a small quantity next round as a trial.

Those of you who do use twist tops, are they VERY easy to twist open once capped?

Cheers...

Capping twist top stubbies?

I have been using pet bottles for my last few brews but also have a bench capper, crown seals and a heap of twist top stubbies.

Is it possible to effectively cap a twist top?

I have tried a couple and although it looks to be capped ok, it takes minimal effort to open and I'm sure it would'nt be ...

Although I have not tried it, if you only cut a couple of inches off the bottling tube, it still should be long enough to use in long necks, the one I got with my kit is 3-4" longer than is needed.

off topic kinda - that cascade spicy ghost draught is gay,
anyone get a decent result from it ?

I have just bottled some spicy ghost draught.

I hope its not "gay", I will post my thoughts when it has been tried though.

I made mine with 500g each of dextrose and light malt and used the yeast ...
