thanks Dr geez can't believe how little i knew about the refractometer...that answers a lot of questions i had regarding my yeast health not just in this brew but in some others....saved me a lot of stuffing around there :)

hi just wondering what sort of increase in IBUs and decrease in aroma people seem to be getting with this method? did a couple of Ags with it but way too soon to be tasting
i'm guessing some dry hopping wouldn't be a bad idea once i get to 2ndary

cool thanks for that - 1.048, while a bit low on the efficiency, puts my beer well within the APA style i was aiming for

hey guys...I recently aquired a 20L rubbermaid (with false bottom) and did my first AG with it yesterday...now my gravity reading was a bit hazy - 12 brix at 55 deg C I think...but I think this means, when adjusted for temp, that my preboil gravity was around 1.060 - once heat is accounted for ...
Re: first AG
did this one today...well yesterday technically
am a bit worried i improved on the expected gravity of the mash....12-13 brix at 55 deg C...still a bit unsure about conversions at high temps
went with the hop schedule i posted...hope it works ok...may be a bit underhopped i guess if the efficiency ...

Re: Coopers Stout original receipe
yeast shouldn't make much of a difference in a stout, *relatively speaking*, as the other ingredients are so strong in flavour...the most important points id say (which have already been made) would be lower the water and use malt extract (or at least a cooper's brew enhancer) instead of the sugar ...
