Been dragging my heels on this one - very sorry. Hopefully will have a bottle on the way in a couple of weeks - I want to do a QA first. Belgian Golden Strong 8%+. Backup will be a more modest English Brown Ale.
Apologies. but I haven't forgotten.

Oh we're from TIGERLAND!
Finally some good signs from the up-and-coming tigers. I may even develop a genuine interest in September footy for a change!

As long as you mash it with a significant portion of malted grain, otherwise you get sweet f.a., as rotten has successfully proven.jayse wrote:You should expect pretty reasonble yield from the unmalted wheat...

Re: Un-malted Witbier advice please
You need some malted grain in there to provide enzymes to convert the starch. Though I hate to say it, speedie was dead-on.

Re: AFL anyone
Richmond robbed of a win v Saints. Pretty annoyed, considering we rolled-over against Carlton last week. Good signs for the Tiges!
Tough days ahead for the Saints, I reckon.

Apologies to the interstaters...
Lob, Cook IGA has an impressive range of imported beers, too (Belgians, British, and others not seen in Dan's, Plonk or other A.C.T. bottle shops). If you ever find yourself out that way, it's worth a look, but check the BB dates.

Speedie makes me feel good about myself...even though my beer is rubbish.
I don't think anyone takes him seriously enough to warrant banning. Then again, I would be wasting less time! trying to decipher his dribble.

Re: Top cropping yeast, then pitching question
I would say that top-cropping is preferable to pitching on/from a previous yeast cake, with the caveat being that your initial source of yeast was optimal and not infected/stressed/mutated.I have only done this a couple of times and have been happy each time. As far as I know, the theory is that ...

Re: Fermenting time
Not suprising that your ailock has stopped bubbling after 3 days at those temps, ideal temp would be at least 5C lower. Whether or not is is completeley finished, you would have to consult your hydrometer.
A quick fermentation is, in itself, not necessarily a bad thing, but the temperature needs to ...

Re: First Wheat Kit
Another rule of thumb is the "30 Rule" or something like that. Basically: pitching temp + finishing temp = 30. i.e. pitch at 13C and let temp rise to 17C to finish. I have done this with liquid with good results, but haven't tried WB06 for ages.

Clutching at straws, mate.
Not sure how I'm clutching at straws when each of the stated parameters of 8B are most likely to be met with the provided recipe, once the hopping is adjusted. Alternatively, 10A is undershot on Alc % (even more so if you factor in the possibility of lower attenuation ...

Mate, his beer is base, crystal and late US hops.
Thanks - I've been been brewing a while.

Re: Hops
I reckon you might want about 30IBU max for a hoppy pale ale or bitter style.
30IBU barely squeaks into spec for an APA. Absolute lowest IBU value for style.
Absolutely. Which is why I didn't say anything about "American" - I think I even removed the word. Moreso from the fact that this guy is ...

Re: Hops
Brown hops should not go into beer under normal circumstances. Throw them out - NOW!
Centennial and Amarillo will contribute to a nice APA-style beer and you can probably substitute 1-1 with the POR as per option #1 above. Seriously, using stale ingredients (hops, grain, yeast) will not reward you ...
