When I say boiled, I mean I add 1 litre-1.5 litres of water, boil, then turn it down to a simmer. Add Liquid Malt and let warm back up and then the hops at the specified intervals.

Was looking at the cans at the HBS today and realised I used Australian Draught not Stockmans Draught :?

From the looks of things, they seem to be pretty similar kits. I shouldn't think that the brew will turn out all that different at all, especially seeing as the kit is just the base and the flavour is all coming from the hop additions. Should still be a winner!

1016 this morning, maybe I misread it or when I moved it I stirred up the yeast, or there was a glob of malt in the tap yesterday, anyway will check again tomorrow.

Just tasted my first attempt at this side-by-side with the commercial version. Been a fan of LCPA ever since I discovered the joys of hops, ales and decent beers. After a bit of research around this site and others I settled on the following recipe based on Boonies famous clone:

1 x Morgans Stockmans Draught
1 x can Thomas Coopers Light Malt Extract
250g dried wheat malt
30g Cascade hops
30g Chinook hops
US-05 dried yeast

Two cans of goo, malt with some boiling water, made upto 23L. 20g cascade/10g chinook steeped in hot water and all in to the fermenter on Day 0. Dry hopped 10g cascade/20g chinook on day 3. Brewed at 18-20degC for 3 weeks. Bottled with 1tsp sugar on 5/9/10.

Pours with a nice off white head that lasts and laces. Colour is a deep golden, probably one shade darker than LCPA. Carb is spot on, gets finer as I drink.

Aroma is characteristic but slightly more fruity/less herbaceous than LCPA

Very similar mouthfeel, I thought mine was a bit too thick/malty but not bad in comparison. Clone is slightly sweeter/rounder but not at all cloying. Bitterness is perfect, hint on the palate after swallowing.

Clone is definitely a bit less crisp but only noticeable in side by side. Have read that LCPA possibly uses a lager yeast for carbonation? If so it would explain the nice bite you get with the commercial stuff. If anyone reads this and knows anything about this process please reply.

Overall: This beer is what websites like this is about. Somebody else has done the hard work and you enjoy the benefits. This beer is so close to the original that it takes a side-by-side to nit-pick a few differences. I remember reading on here something about 'taking home Jennifer Hawkins sister'. At $18 a standard case who is going to argue? In fact, if the normal commercial brews were half as good as this I would not have taken up home brewing in the first place. Well done to Boonie and others who have done the hard yards!

It's a very nice recipe.
I made a couple of batches of it in my pre AG days, and enjoyed them very much.

Sounds like this recipe sure is something special, so I’ll give it a crack…
Just a question, what liquid yeast do you reckon would be best for this batch? wyeast 1056?
And I’ll probably be going with:

1 tin Morgans Stockmans Draught
1.5 kg of Cooper’s Pale Malt Extract (Liquid)
15g of Cascade pellets - 15min
15g Cluster pellets - 15 min
5g Cascade pellets – 5 min
20g of Chinook Pellets (dry hopped at rack).

Any further Comments? Questions? Queries?

Trizza

Edit: also, what bulk priming rate of LDME should I go for?

I might be going out on a limb here, but doesn’t the above constitute the sort of Spam that Oliver was referring to in the explanation for the shutdown of the forum today...

I don't know, while it was a double post by James at least he posts the actual recipes (before his post was edited) so you can put it togther yourself if you want, so he is actually contributing a recipe. If he was just offering a kit for sale with no details I would have a problem with it in this thread.

All I can see is that some basic ingredients have been listed, which would help anyone trying to clone an LCPA -
that is surely a positive post, and great information to start a clone with.

Unless something has been deleted before I saw this thread...

Yup, it's been cut down a lot!

BTW, what bulk priming rate of LDME do people reckon on this batch? 7g/l?
