Checking FG on a Cider batch

Postby grabman » Sunday Nov 14, 2004 12:20 pm

I've put down a BlackRock Cider to which I added brewbooster #15, with 3L Harvey Fresh 100% Apple Juice made up to 20L volume only. The initial gravity was 1050 after 7 days its dropped to 1020 which by my calc's gives an alcohol reading of around 4.2%.

How much further do you guys think it will drop given the extras I put in to start with? I don't expect with the non-fermantables that it it will drop to 1004 or so but should it go lower?

The taste thus far is sensational. I might try a ginger/apple brew soon, very crisp for hot summer days!

Yeh,

I've done some stuff with apples and it dropped below 1. I would wait another week and then bottle

cheers Dogger, my Mexican is proving interesting, it;s down to 1000 and still bubbling so will wait a day or so more before bottling.

will then get the cider sorted and then into the ginger/apple brew.

roll on summer, the days of lazy, hazy crazy beer filled afternoons!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure, winter is coming here, Nova Scotia was burried under 45 cm snow this weekend.

I agree it's probably just a little colder in Canada! But it's not the start of summer over here either although even if it was it would still be cold and raining! :)
