Sub Zero equivilent

Postby ImBatman » Wednesday Aug 23, 2006 2:01 pm

Any ideas for a recipe for an equivilent to the "Sub Zero"?

It was a rather successful "Alcoholic Soda Water" from the mid nineties.

I know it was actually brewed - I think by Carlton - it wasn't just a flavoured Vodka like most of the lolly waters of today.

How do you think they did it? It didn't taste like anything in particular (say like alcoholic ginger beer does) but it did have a distinctive taste of it's own.

Any ideas where to start???

Try dextrose in water, you may need a different yeast.

I was going to suggest much the same.

Dex + Water + Yeast Nutrient + Yeast

Don't know what yeast though. Whatever you've got, I'd say for a first shot.

At least it should be pretty easy to make small brews to try out different combos.

My friends and I loved them, and would love to know how they did it. They tasted rather good towards the end of the night if I remember correctly, but then we were drinking them topped up with black sambucca!

They had a distinct taste - I think I might throw some Bitters in with it to see what that does.

The only guy I know who has tried this says he smashed a bottle of it in his garage, and couldn't go near it to clean up the glass for a week because every time he tried it he nearly threw up. He called it "alcohol water" and he won't be trying it again!
