Increased efficiency ?

Postby SuperBroo » Monday Jul 05, 2010 8:43 pm

Hi All,
I did a brew yesterday, a light ale with 3.4 kg pale malt and 0.1 kg caramalt.

I have had 75% efficiency with my drsmurtos golden ale, a kolsch and a
German lager, all consistently at 75%.

I crushed the grain about 3 weeks ago, and stored it in a sealed plastic bag,
but didn't mash it until yesterday.

My efficiency was 85%.
I have double checked all my numbers.

Would storing it for a short time after crushing have increased the efficiency ?

Also, is storing it detrimental to the grain / sugars etc ?

Cheers,
Chris

Was it a lower OG beer than the others?

I find that i hit bang on 70% for my regular beers which are OG 1.042-47. When i go above 1.050 my efficiency starts to drop. When i go below 1.040 it increases.
