Beersmith mash tun setup

Hi All,

This could be my attempt at the stupid question of the day, here goes...

I have been setting up Beersmith (and also Bremate - trying them both while learning my way around).

In Beersmith, where the Lauter tun set up is recorded, it asks for the Lauter Tun Deadspace.
I have a 25 Litre bucket in bucket setup, which holds 5.3 Litres between the bottoms of the 2 buckets, ie: the area below the grain.

Is the dead space I have to enter, the 5.3 Litre amount as above, or is it the amount left below the outlet tap level after draining ?

Also, exactly where is this amount used in calculation of the brew process.

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but its all a bit confusing...

Cheers,
Chris

Dead space is the amount of liquid left after you drain the tun.

Sorry, just another one.

In my proposed partial recipe, its 2.3 Kg grain, and the first 'mash in' instruction is to add 6L (strike water), am OK with that.
But where would I enter into the Beersmith software, the allowance for the extra 5.3 Litres between the bucket bases.
I have tried entering it into the dead space, also into the the top up area etc, but nothing seems to make it add the5.3 Litres to the inital 6 Litres its specified. :(

Any thoughts ?

Cheers,
Chris
