Hi Guys,

I have just mixed up a new wash: 6kg Sugar topped up to 25l, Turbo yeast and turbo carbon. As I was screwing down the lid I noticed a strong ammonia smell. Should I be worried? If so is there anything I can do?

ok first monkey don't believe what everyone tells u about turbos etc they are perfectly balanced ingredients all clean with the quickest time to ferment.
what u prob smelling is more likely sulphide usualy left over from cleaning with steriliser don't be concerned it will polish out as long as u carbon filter it when it distilled

And that's probably the problem with them right there.
Ask most people on here about how they ferment their beer and they will probably tell you cool and slow ( with a couple of exceptions )

If you like the turbos go for it, but for me they smell and the spirit needs carbon filtering to clean it up.

Agree with tipsy. If it needs post distillation cleaning it's not producing a high quality spirit.

Sulphide smells like rotten eggs. Sulphite is what I think you meant.
