No. Best you can hope for in a fermenter is around 12~15% alc. Although I've heard claims of some specialty yeasts going to around 25%.

To make spirits you really need to distill the alcohol from the fermented liquid.
Cheers,
Greg

12% is about the max I have ever gotten, but I have tasted 18% (falling over juice) but that was made by adding insane amounts of sugar to a beer

18% was not very drinkable, tasted a bit like metho to be honest. VERY dry and mostly tasteless!

I've read of specialty yeast getting up to 20%... but the quality and flavour of the alcohol is not too good (as it manages to do this in about 2-3days at 24C), hence the need to distill off the ethanol....

You'd have to really jack the heat up, use lots of dextrose, and give the yeast a lot of help with additives to keep them alive.

You could do it, but you wouldn't want to drink it. You'd maybe use it to kill snails.

i got a mash alc % of about 28 when i used a fermentor, so its like a spirit i guess? In reality its just a beer though.

I used bread yeast, corn flour and unground malt with 2 kg of white sugar. Very crude, but very potent.

A friend of mine did a brew like that, called it "alcohol water" and always told this story: someone smashed a bottle of it in his garage, and he couldn't go near it for two weeks to clean up the glass because every time he tried the smell nearly made him puke!
