Micros/Brewpubs/goodpubs in Sydney

Been to a good pub, or bad, lately? Found a bar with a great selection of beer? Looking for a new local or somewhere to visit on holidays?

Micros/Brewpubs/goodpubs in Sydney

Postby MHD » Tuesday Dec 13, 2005 1:17 pm

Hi all, Spending xmas->NYD in Sydney... Now when I lived there many a year ago I didnt know the difference between a good beer and a smelly slap in the face by a cold damp fish...

Now are/where there any good brewpubs/microbrewries in Sydney?

For those that know Canberra, in the style of the Wig and Pen.. (mmmm.....)

????

Even better if they are northern beaches side...

Hart's Pub, in Circular Quay/Rocks is a good pub. Not really microbrew, but they have a good selection of non-commercial brews. Like wheat, blonde, pilsener etc. on tap.

It's on the corner of Harrington St, and Essex St.

Nice old-fashioned sandstone atmosphere too.

the macquarie hotel brewery
http://www.macquariehotel.com/
they do a nice schwartzbeir, pale, & pilsner..

imo you cant visit sydney without visiting the lord nelson brewpub:
http://www.lordnelson.com.au/

also the redoak beer cafe is pretty good:
http://www.redoak.com.au
beers are hella pricey - $8-9 for 250ml.. but they are good. the carlisle hotel in newtown (10mins out of the city) has a couple of their beers on tap ($4.50 for 425ml) & in the bottle ($5) if your on a budget.

the australian has a really good beer selection + a few microbrews on tap.. the pizza is apparently good too:

also try the Belgian Beer Cafe. Not a micro but great range of solid imported Belgian/German beers and great food.

The Lord Nelson is a cracker especially on Australia Day.

Also don't forget the J.S Brewhouse.

Not really brewpubs, but some good pubs all the same on the Rocks Pub Crawl off J.S website as well.

This site might be of some use

As might this one (just general pubs)

Redoak as mentioned above is rather costly but they have some bloody ripper beers. Good place for a bite as well.
