James Squires in Brisbane?

For me, one of the most important parts of a pub is obviously the beer they serve, so I tend to find myself in places that serve Squires, Coopers, Little Creatures, the boutique kind of stuff. Since these breweries happen to be a fair distance from Brisbane, it's not always easy to find a pub that serves these kind of beers on tap.

Squires are probably the beer I drink most often so I figured I'd ask you guys if you were aware of any pubs that served them on tap that I'm not familiar with.

To begin with:

The Port Office - Amber
The Stock Exchange - Amber
Fridays - Amber

These are all clubs and don't really know the definition of a good beer but obviously demand has done them some good, so if you must go to a club in Brisbane, these places can give you a decent beer.

O'Malleys - Amber
The Story Bridge Hotel - Amber
The Riverside Canteen - Golden

More pub/restaurant environments.

The Regatta

I'm not really a fan of the Regatta but it does have it's own micro brewery and they have the amber and golden ales on tap so I consider that enough reason to go there occasionally.

Feel free to add in any pubs I may have missed, especially if they have something on tap other than the amber or golden, since I've never had any of the other Squire brews on tap before I'm keen to give them a go.

Haven't been there for a while but the pub at Central Station had Amber on tap. I think its called the Whistlestop, its the little pub near all the ticket offices, not the large pub down on Ann St level though next time I'm in Bris I plan to check it out as well.

That's right, completely forgot about that place as it's only really open during the day/afternoon. They've probably got the best prices on a beer I've seen in the city.

The Brewhouse has Little Creatures Pale Ale on tap along with their own beers.

I thought it was also open during the evening. I remember being there about 7 or so one night and a bloke at the bar complaining about being late for his AA meeting. Drinking problem .... what problem?

Yeh, late afternoon/evening. It doesn't have the normal hours of a pub though as it's been closed many times when I've walked by for a night out, which would have been between 8.30 and 9.30.

The Norman Hotel now also has the JSAA on tap and a bunch of JS banners propped up everywhere. I'm hoping they'll get some of the others on tap too, like the GA or Pilsner.

... or IPA & Porter ...
:)

Wait... this is Brisbane ... likely no chance of that.

Was just at the Brewhouse today for lunch, and as usual they were out of some of their beers... namely the two I was looking forward to having....
4th Reich & Up Your Kilt. They did have a couple Redoak brews, and also James Squire Golden Ale on tap though. Me? I had the Engine Pale Ale! :D

if you go on the malt shovel website, it'll list all the pubs where it is served (under stockists)... It doesnt show what beer is served... but its a start.

Just noticed when I was in the Brewhouse yesterday they now serve JSGA on tap. LCPA and JSGA on tap in the one place makes me a happy camper.

Also on the Pepperberry Ale, it can be found in Brisbane at Zi Bar and the Regatta as well.

A mate and myself headed off to the Regatta last night to try the pepperberry ale. We get there and spot the JS taps, the golden ale, amber ale and pilsner. After looking around the bar we couldn't spot the pepperberry so we ask one of the staff. Of course, they've never heard of it. We try the bar downstairs, same story.

Despite the JS newsletter says, it appears there isn't any pepperberry ale at the Regatta and I'm somewhat disappointed that a place like the Regatta is associated with JS. Considering the standard customer there can't tell you the difference between a stout and a lager besides one is darker than the other, JS beers on tap there are a waste.

What we need in Brisbane is a real JS Brewhouse.

I hear that! Until then, I've been spending more than a bit of time at the Brewhouse as I seemed to have developed a love for the Engine! 8) :P
