I busted my keg

Postby General » Tuesday Nov 22, 2005 9:39 am

I accidentally froze about 10L of Coopers Pilsener in my keg, and ice came out of both posts, and blew the beer line off the disconnect.

Now it leaks CO2 (I've shut off the cylinder).

My questions are:

1. Will replacing the post o-rings fix my problem?
2. Can I do it without losing my Pilsener?
3. If not, does anyone want a glass of un-carbonated Pilsener?

my guess is that replacing the O rings would probably fix the leaking CO2, if not send them to the GC I'll take them off your hands, you can leave the pilsner in there if you want, I'll clean it out. LOL

The keg should be fine, just the seals may need replacing, try re-carbonating the beer should also be ok.

I'd remove both posts and replace o-rings etc.

As AC siad the beer should be fine if you are carefull.

I'd also turn the fridge down

I'm thinking I would turn the fridge up Grab, temps already to low  .

Replace gaskets and O rings. and poppets just for fun.

Now the sad part

The beer may be south already if it is venting to the atmosphere. Be very careful. I hate to say this but let me try it this way. Would you recarbonate an open bottle of beer and try to drink after it has been sitting open for a few days? Really, your keg is just a big bottle of beer.

Although there are no known deadly pathogens in beer you can get some that can make you sick

Were it me, I would loose the beer and chalk it up to experience

Sorry

Dogger

And yes my microbio friends that just cringe when I write, I know what the chances are, but someone always wins the lottery and the fridge is a pretty dirty place.

Thanks Guys.

Dogger I sanitise the inside of my fridge (spraying with Bleach/Water mix, then rinse well.)

I wonder which I prefer, being sick, or being sober?

Tough one General,

Glad I don't have to make it.

I tossed out 5 gallons last week, tried my damndest but was going to be a no go.

I said my bit, I'll stick by it, were it me, it would go, but it isn't and thats good for me. Sucks to be you my friend. We all have to stand behind our decisions.

Just as an aside, and by no means is this meant to be a deal breaking factor, my Dear Mom got food poisoning after drinking a bottle of coke my Dad shoved in the freezer that had frozen and lost the seal. He melted it in the fridge, she got sick, like asshole coming out the mouth sick, to this day (and he is dead now, God rest his soul) she never lets him forget it.
