Reconditioning Kegs

Hi All,

First post in here, - so go easy on me!

I've been brewing for a year, and predominantly use kits.

I'm looking to purchase some kegging equipment and have come across some non-reconditioned kegs. Is is easy to get them up to scratch yourself?

If so, any help would be great, and i'm in SE Melbourne too if its any help.

where abouts in SE melbourne? i wanna check out someone else's kegging setup so i have an idea what i'm considering getting myself into

I bought 4 kegs from ross at craft brewer and 2 seal kits

I've only replaced one o-ring on one of the posts

I didn't need to changed anything else and they've been holding pressure no worries

They did need a clean

I put in boiling water with some generic napisan - sealed it and shaked it

then rinsed with boiling water
twice more with cool water
then gave it a shot of idophor

it was all sweet

they still have stickers and stuff on them - but i couldn't be bothered cleaning the out side

Got 4 kegs from the same place and got replacement seal kits but on close inspection, none of them needing replacing! A good rinse with napisan as Cortez suggested and one-shot and your on your way.

i've also bought kegs off Ross and they have been as good as the recon one they sell at the HBS.

I have one question, What's idophor ?

Iodophor (AKA Idophor) is an iodine based no-rinse sanitiser.

where do you buy Idophor ?

You should be able to get it at any HBS. I know Grain and Grape stock it.
