The ins and outs of putting your beer into kegs.

beer in gauges, help

Postby wobbler » Monday Aug 20, 2007 12:47 pm

I just managed to put the gas leed on the out post of my keg and beer blow back through it.

Should i pull it apart while it's still wet or do I blow it out as much as possile
via the outlet and the release valve on the gauge ?

Send it back for a service. You HBS should set you on the right track. The trouble with servicing it yourself is that you have the high-pressure gas side involved, which means if you stuff it up you could die. Best not risk it.

this is why I like pin locks - you can't stuff it up

I wonder how much extra they charge to fit it?

Oh, and get yourself a check valve to stop it happening again.

Even cheaper.

Purchase some Green and Red/Blue Electrical taple.

Green = Gas

Blue/Red = Liquid.

Wrap the appropiate tape around the handles, on their respective sides

^^ the beer can still go up the gas line if the kegs don't stay upright

Or if the beer foams up inside the keg for any reason, such as rocking the keg to force carbonate it. Check valve is cheap insurance. It helps you relax and have a homebrew.

I forgot to burp a keg once after force carbonating

I connected gas QD without the gas on and beer shot up the gas line

It went a little way but the check valve stopped it going too far

Well worth the money - so are the john guest fittings

Cheers
