Am expecting my kegs tomorrow :D was looking on the BOC site and they do mixtures of Co2/N Would you guys use just Co2 for pale ales and lagers or would the mixture be the go? gonna be heaps of beer being downed till i get the carbonation right

co2 is fine. Use 3 metres of 5mm beer line to get a good pour with about 80-100kpa. To adjust the pour adjust the beer line length and not the pressure.

I suggest you start with 5 metres and remove some if it is too much. 5M seems to be the most common length for people to get a good pour at 100 kpa or so. DO not worry about the CO2/N mix unless you are doing Guinness and Real Ale.

5mm beer line has 5psi of resistance per metre. As the beer is kept at 15 psi to maintain carbonation divide this by 5psi and you get 3 metres of beer line for a balanced system. If you use 5 metres it will pour too slow.

What, assuming that there's no head pressure in the line (i.e. that you pour at the same height as the disconnect)?

From what I have seen, everyone that has used 5M of line has had great results!

And lets not even get started about thermal gradients when you have some part of your beer line out of the fridge......

Trial and error is the best way of working this out and its a lot of fun.

'Honey, I'm only drunk cos i have been trying to find the best pressure to pour a pint'

As said earlier you shouldnt play with your reg to get your beer to pour right, play with the line length.

Have a read of this to get a better understanding of what you are trying to achieve:
