The ins and outs of putting your beer into kegs.

Please post Keg/Kegerator set-up photos please..

Postby Clean Brewer » Tuesday May 20, 2008 11:19 pm

Hello all Keggers,

Would just like to see if all the People on this forum that Keg their beer would be able to post 1 or 2 photos of their Keg/Kegerator systems?? :D

I am on my way to getting mine setup and would find it interesting to see other brewers set-ups.. :D

I think it would also be beneficial for fellow brewers who would like to start kegging and could get an insight on 1 Topic.. :D

I've made a start with a photo of my proposed kegerator, 380ltr fridge(no freezer - cost $15.45), have spruced it up with $6 of paint & fridge mate. :D :D

Hey Phil,
never mind trying to explain the Tooheys tap, what about the presence of something VB on top of the fridge! It's a wonder your brews haven't been infected by these cheap and nasty commercial brews in their vicinity !!!! :D

My setup:

Might be selling it all very soon if anyone is interested... still not sure if it is worth moving it all or not...
Prost and happy brewing!

This is my brand new keg setup. Its that new it still has not even poured its first beer yet ( hopefully tonight! ). Got the fridge for nothing. It had servere scratched on the main door form the previous owner trying to remove the melted remains of a fridge magnet with a screw driver. Started this project on the Australia day long weekend ( hense the final decalls ont he door ).

Image Click the pic for a larger image.

The doors are painted with 4 coats of enamel and a couple of coats of clear as well. Got the keg system from the Country Brewer as well as the excellent drip tray, which is more then twice as deep as most other drip trays I looked at! Got a couple of lagers in there at the moment. One is still cold conditioning and the other is carbonating, and hopefully should be ready today. Still have some things to do to it, such as put on a white board for recording and so on. Maybe a few more stickers.
Hopefully the fridge nest to it, which is also a spare fridge, will get turned into a brew fridge when I talk the missus into it.....

Here's my refuge. Its in what would have originally been a single car garage that has been rendered inside. The bar was there when i bought the place, i just polished it up, added the taps, fridge etc and its now my home away from home.....

Reminds me of Barney from the Simpsons.

UHH OHH my heart just stopped.... ohhh there it goes..

Great setup, thats for sure. Do you have any issues with the beer flow from the taps at that distance from the fridge??

Love the 'barney' shot as well. Thats one to be framed and put up behind the bar!

In summer the first part of the pint can be a tad warm. I have insulated the line outside of the fridge but still froths a bit but i just pour 1/4 of a pint, let it settle for a a minute and then top up. In winter its all good as its bloody chilly up here in the Adelaide Hills! Hence the beanie in the Barney shot.

Got messy a bit after that (it was the bar warming party) and we had skolling comps......

Have loads of parties at my place, a huge one last Friday night that ended at 7:30am with 2 empty kegs, 2 empty bottles of Sable (choc port) and an empty bottle of scotch......

Plus, having kegs means i can rock up to parties with my own keg (or 2) rather than bringing bottles. Just gas the keg slightly higher than normal, whack on a picnic tap and Robert's your father's brother.

The looks i get when i rock up to a party with my own keg is worth the $25 for the tap. 8)

I went to a Card Night the other week and wished I could bring my kegged beer as it was nicer than my bottled.......

How high did you go with the pressure to ensure that it kept flowing Doc? Also, did you keep the Keg in an esky of ice?

Cheers

I pour at about 7-8psi so normally up it to about 10-12 psi. At this time of the year there is no need for cooling mate!

Grab yourself a keg charger, i use one when i transport kegs and they work great, saves me carting the bottle with me when i go to my holiday plot or a party etc
