Instinct is telling me no, but i can't think why. The beer is carbonated and the capped bottle locks out the oxygen that would otherwise make it go stale?? So i'm thinking the bottle should last as though it had been primed?

You can do it but it is a little tricky to get the bottle full as it is carbed and will froth a fair bit in the pouring, you will probably want to invest in a carbonation cap aswell cos you will lose a bit when pouring.

i checked out the carbonation cap which is a cool idea but i was thinking of just putting a normal cap on it if i get into kegging (gorrd it's inevitable i know it) and giving it to someone or maybe just bottling a couple for myself to see how it aged. I can understand i'd have to be careful pouring it and it'd still be messy, but not sure how much carbonation would be lost during the pour, and if a normal capped bottle would be good to age. Would be an interesting experiment i guess.

The carbonation cap is only to add a little extra after bottling, you can still cap normally.

You could get a counter-pressure bottle filler. But you'd still want the carb cap.

Easy as. I was at a mates place on Friday night and we tucked into a bottle of my Dark Mild which i had bottled from the keg 2 months prior. Still had all the carbonation it went into the bottle with.

Trick is to vent the keg of gas, reduce the pouring pressure down so it dribbles out and reconnect the gas. It takes a while to fill a longie and you only get a few cm of foam which aids in pushing any O2 out of the bottle. Cap immediately.

I bottled the entire 15 longies for the SA xmas in july case swap doing this. Means i am guaranteed a clear beer with no yeast sediment.

What about the O2 in the bottle?

Displaced by the beer.

But not until after you run that nice thin stream of beautiful clear malty beer through all that air...

What I do is make a hose with a beer QD on one end and a a Bronco Faucet (Prt No. BRONCOF&H) you can get from for $7.95 (note no connection to Craftbrewer) Craftbrewer then push a piece of hose on the spout of the faucet make it long enough to reach the bottom of the bottles.

As was previously said lower the gas pressure in the keg, have the bottles chilled and fill the bottle the small amount of head pushes out the O2 and as the hose is in the bottom of the bottle you are not pouring through O2, then cap on the foam.
