STC-1000 issues

Postby Guru » Wednesday Feb 13, 2013 2:44 pm

I received my ebay STC-1000 the other day and proceeded to wire it up according to the many tutorials out there. All seems fine and the unit powers up ok and displays the current temp on the front panel. The cool light flashes for a couple of minutes (fridge compressor delay) and then goes solid and power is supplied to my female plug. This is all well and good until I try to change the settings. Holding the S button in for a few seconds does absolutely nothing, the display does not change. Therefore I am unable to set my fermentation temperature as the default is 10deg.

I suspect the unit is faulty and have sent an email off to the ebay seller with this same information. I have yet to receive a reply. Has anyone else experienced this problem with one of these units? Am I just doing something really obviously wrong?

Of course I would prefer to prove myself stupid than have to send the unit back. Any input/name calling welcome here.

I'm at work so can't check mine. How long have you been holding the S button for? Mine takes a while to kick in.

Held in for at least 15 seconds. Manual says 3 seconds.

I'd say its fooked. You could pull it apart in case it's just a loose wire or connection but obviously that will void your warranty. I think nige from brewadelaide has them in stock again for a good price

Finally got a response from the ebay seller. He is going to send me a new one, no need to return old one. Clearly these things are cheaper than the postage.

If new one is also faulty then he wants me to return both of them. If new one works then I get to keep them both. A good solution in my books I think. Hopefully this new one works then.

Well the replacement unit came today. Just swapped over the wires from the other unit and presto it is all working correct. The settings button now works as it should and I can set my brew temp.

Obviously just a manufacturing fault and of course I go the dodgy one. Anyway the ebay seller I used provided excellent server (smartdigi) and I now have 2 STC-1000 units for the price of one, although one is not working. I will pull this one apart and see if I can get it to work.

Don't waste your time. I'd rather pull it apart and fark it right up than brew a lager

Don't worry, this weekend the unit will be in a thousand pieces. I'm really good at pulling things apart, just not so good at putting them back together... 8)
