Palate Calibration - Session 2!

Post by Trough Lolly »

G'day all,
As promised, here are a couple of happy snaps of the second session. Firstly, I thought I might focus on some darker beers, with a couple TTL's thrown in for good measure!

And I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this case of beer :D :

Cheers,

The SNPA is pure porn TL.
A local bottleshop had a pricing error, and were selling the Korbinians a while ago for $5.50, sadly they fixed it.

TL,
We have full guest accommodation at our place.
Your own room + ensuite, TV, DVD player etc, and undercover security garage.

Tariff is very reasonable: You just bring the beers. :D

That's a nice price....In case anyone's wondering about bottle prices:

SNPA - $120 a slab (Edit: corrected price according to visa card statement!!)
Schneider Weisse Aventinus - $7.10
Weihenstephaner Korbinian - $6.83
Erdinger Pikantus - $6.83
TTLL - $7.28 each, and
Franziskaner Dunkel - $4.05
(all prices were actually discounted slightly as I bought a mixed six pack, rather than pay individually for each beer)

....I actually have 5 six packs of SNPA. I bought a sixpack ($29.95) and when I skipped back to the car looking like I'd won tattslotto, the missus said "well, if you really want a slab for your birthday, go and get it"....I didn't need to be told twice!!! :D

They had at least a dozen cases of SNPA in a stack on the shop floor - 'twas a picture of beauty...in one of the best bottle shops in the country, IMO - "Plonk" at the Fyshwick markets, first shop on the left as you enter the markets. Dan, behind the counter, is a member of the Canberra Brewers 8)

To help me drink this stuff, he kindly gave me 2 x Erdinger Pikantus Glasses and 2 x Schofferhoffer weisse glasses;

....ok, I'll shutup now.

Cheers,
TL

mmm. well, they changed it to $8.50 or something.. thus I stopped buying them.
I like to know what a good buying price is for a beverage, and how fresh it is, gives me a sense of value.

But then again you have to treat yourself. Right TL? :D

Indeed!

At "Plonk", Dan watches the useby dates and was actually concerned that the dozen or so cases of SNPA wouldn't be sold before their September useby date....yeah, right!! I'll have to help him out if it gets tight!! :)

By way of update, I knocked off the Weihenstephaner Korbinian and a six pack of SNPA last night - a casual night at Chateau TL in front of the tele!!

Sheesh, the Korbinian is a hammeringly good beer - nothing subtle about it - loads of sweetness, bitterness, chocolate, caramunich, sharp wheat notes oh, and some water thrown in for good measure in each 500ml bottle!! A very nice doppelbock that could almost turn into a session beer if you didn't have anything planned for the next couple of days!!

Cheers,
TL

I agree. I have to say that the Korbinian and Vitus are definitely my favourite Weihenstephaner beers (incidentally also probably their two biggest). The Korbinian malt profile is definitely 'present' and doesn't need a great deal of searching... but you are far better off having more than one sip, just to be absolutely sure.
