Win a double DVD of Brew Masters Series 1

Postby Oliver » Wednesday Aug 31, 2011 8:55 pm

Hi all,

Here at homebrewandbeer.com we don't usually give away stuff, mainly because we don't often get given stuff to give away.

But that's all changing in September and October because we are giving away five double DVD sets of series one of Brew Masters, each valued at $24.95.

For your chance to win:

1. Post a message on the forum. We have two DVD sets to give away in September and another two in October. All you need to do for a chance to win is post a message anywhere on the homebrewandbeer.com forum. Not a member? Why not join. Two people who post in September will be drawn at random and win a DVD set, with a further two in October.

or

2. Enter the 2011 Southern Spring Lotto Draw. As well as getting a heap of free beer from fellow forum members, the winner of September's draw will also receive a bonus prize of a copy of Brew Masters Series 1 DVD pack.

So get posting. And don't forget to enter the Spring lotto draw. But hurry, the draw is this weekend, Saturday, September 3, 2011.

What is Brew Masters?
In 1995, Sam Calagione founded Dogfish Head Brewery in Delaware, USA. Brew Masters follows Calagione around the US and the world living up to his brewery's motto of brewing "off-centred ales for off-centred people".

Among the highlights in the six-part series Calagioni:
  • Works with Sony to brew a beer to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Miles Davis' Bitches Brew album.
  • Travels to Peru to find out about chicha, a brew made with corn that has been chewed and spat out by humans. Calagione returns to the US and ropes in the brewery workers to get chewing and spitting so that he can brew his first chicha, which is sold at one of his brewpubs.
  • Collaborates with Epic Brewing in New Zealand to brew a tamarillo and pohutakawa brew to be released at Beervana, a NZ craft beer festival.
  • Makes a beer containing cedar scraps left over from surfboard manufacture.
  • Travels to Egypt to investigate ancient beer recipes and collect wild yeast to make a brew that tastes what beer may have tasted like 9000 years ago.
  • Goes to Italy to investigate its craft beers and brews Dogfish Head's first beer for a new New York restaurant.

There are a few lowlights, such as watching thousands of litres of beer get tipped down the drain, and Calagione's personality isn't for everyone but Brew Masters is an interesting and informative series for anyone interested in beer or homebrewing.

Cheers,

Oliver

Ha! :D

I just clarified the rules by adding "Two people who post in September will be drawn at random and win a DVD set, with a further two in October", so you're a bit early sorry Earl. Better come back tomorrow

Cheers,

Oliver

Seeing the series got cancelled before the final episode even aired delaying it I think the series one moniker is a mute point lol

I thoroughly enjoyed the series for what it was. Infotainment.

Been real quiet here so hopefully this brings some out.

For anyone that hasn't seen Brew Masters, I think it's a great show. Though the episode about Chicha was a bit sickening.

EDIT: Of course, there are TWO winners being decided, not just one.

OK team, there were 41 of you who posted in September, not including me and retailers. That gives you almost a 1 in 20 chance of winning!

I've assigned you each a number and, in a touch of HB&B Lotto, the first two numbers drawn in this Saturday night's national lotto (draw 3153) will be the winners. If the first number drawn is between 42 and 45, it goes to the second number, and so on. There will two winners this Saturday night.

I will PM and email the winners, and if they do not claim their wins within two weeks of the draw (by return PM or email) a new winner will be decided using the lotto draw two weeks after the original winners' number came up.

Oliver sir, does the fact that each winning number began with 3 (my number) mean anything? :D
Well done to the winners.
