It's a little alcoholic tasting for me. Tastes like it's got rum in it or something. Frakly, I prefer my own Honey Porter!

How nice is this.

I bought a single as part of my rateBeer efforts, wasn't really impressed. A bit light on in body for a porter and honey presence a bit on the treacley (is that a word?) side.
Bought from 1st Choice liquor at Ashfield, 6 packs going for about $16

Well, I'm about two thirds of the way through a slab of Boags Honey Porter that I picked up on the way home from work last night.
I'm pretty happy with it.

Well I just paid $19.95 for a 6 pack, poured out one for me and one for my wife. My wife took one sip and plonked it on the desk next to me and then went to the fridge for one of my home brews. At least she likes my homebrew...

Awesome colour .... kind of has that initial honey taste rather than the honey aftertaste you get in Bees Knees ect.... How do you get that honey after taste? I bet it's not the honey!

Yeah, I dunno... it kinda tastes to me like they've blended a standard porter with some mead or something.

I found that the honey is more in the nose.

I came close a couple of years back:

Coopers Dark Ale
BodyBrew (600g Dex, 400g Maltodextrin)
500g Leatherwood Honey
12g Goldings steeped
Kit yeast.

I just tried some of this, and I wasn't overly impressed. For a dark it doesn't have the body and I don't find it particulalry interesting either.

It was still beer though so I didn't mind it

I agree totally mate, was lacking the body.

I was fortunate enough to find a six of this at the national park store in Minnie Water last March. The price was prohibitive to get them all so I got only two bottles< and enjoyed one of them. The other my wife enjoyed. I wanted to go back for the other 4 but didn't have the $4 a bottle. Still, it was excellent. I think it would have tasted better on draught.

I was the beneficiary of a free six pack and my neighbour still has a case left.

I love it. I only have 2 left, they are past the expiry date, but still taste OK.

Going to have to try this one now gregb.

Can I get away with straight LDM rather than BodyBrew?

Would you still use the kit yeast as well? S-04 or US-05 might be good...

I was going to go US05 (US56)....thoughts, I prefer this to the so4..........

S-04 would be my first choice these days. Also I'd be looking to do it as an extract/spec batch, but I've not worked out any recipe details etc.

It was batch 17 brewed in Oct 2003.

I do not think they are making it for a while....atleast that's what my mate who works for them told me a while back.

Yeah, thats the peep I got from them when I emailed them awhile ago. I think those bottles I stumbled across at Minnie Water last year was the last of it.

I just got a single of this. Absolutely brilliant beer - 5 years old, perfect liquid gold. Honey is pronounced, hops have mellowed perfectly, and the beer is smooth and full flavoured. Am going back to the seller tomorrow to beg for a case.
