Boags Wizard Smith

Hi all,

Had a few of these when I was down in Tassie last week (after I did the Boags tour). It's meant to be an English style pale ale and isn't too bad. They dry hop with EK Goldings and the aroma is quite nice. Apparently they are/will be trying to grow Goldings in Tassie for this brew. The current batch is a once-off to see how it goes. Not sure if it's available on the mainland or how much will be available but definately worth a try IMO.

btw - Has anyone done the Boags factory tour recently? I was a bit underwhelmed after the great tour that Cascade do. Especially since I think I knew more about brewing than the guide...

Cheers,

Tim

Murphy's in Hornsby has it. I tried one, it is drinkable. Compares well to most megaswills, but is not something I'd give up brewing for.

Cheers,

Neighbour works for Boags, had it 2 weeks ago.

Drinkable IMO. Is aimed at Tooheys and VB drinkers though.

Better than VB

Cheers

Bought a bottle out of curiosity last week. Much better than most of the commercial crap. I've never been a fan of Boag's beers, but this is something I can drink.

The novelty name is really what lured me into buying a bottle :P
Wizard Smiths Ale

There was an article on the Wizard Smith's Ale in yesterdays Herald Sun. I might chase up a six pack and give them a try. Are they being sold at premium beer prices or megaswill prices?
"Doc, what can I do about these terrible hangovers?"
'You can stop drinking beer'
"No, seriously Doc, what can I do?"

I picked up a 6-pack down in Tassie for about $18. So in-between I guess.

I thought the same buscy. The bottle blurb says it's all malt which confused me a bit, especially since the tour guide said they put sugar in all their brews. I reckon it would be easy enough to replicate if you were so inclined.

I'm with Buscador and Timmy on this one. Even though it says all malt, it tastes very thin. The Goldings is definitely there but its lacking in the malt department. As Boonie said its aimed at VB and Tooheys drinkers and its a lot better than those megaswills. If it gets them to try something else then its a good thing IMHO. I won't be rushing to buy it again though.
