O&GHBAB Beer-Off

Postby Evo » Tuesday Jun 21, 2005 8:08 pm

Inspired by Merlin's post about The Country Brewer homebrew competition AND in order to rouse some inter-forum comradary, I've come up with yet another brainstorm. I can see your faces already -

Here it is. How about an O&GHBAB Beer-Off ? Open to members of this site (and guests - whatever), everyone submits a few of their best to Oliver (if he is in agreement) within style guidelines. Oliver (and maybe Geoff if we could be so lucky) could then judge them and award a winner of each style. Pretty much like a normal homebrew comp I guess (not that I've ever entered one).

I reckon we could waive the $7 per category entry charge that TCB has imposed on their comp. That would also mean waiving the prizes that TCB offers. Perhaps instead Oliver could whip up a page on his website of the winners of each category and his tasting notes. So instead of material rewards you get fame.

Of course if Oliver doesn't want a bar of this (as is his want - he may be a busy man), I'd be more than willing to get a couple of the Sydney lads around to my joint to do the judging. I could also offer a small part of the fame by sticking the results up on my website. Could even print up some certificates.

So whaddaya reckon gents ? Would you enter ? And what about you Oliver ? Would you host ? C'mon. All it'll cost you is a few stubbies of your finest and a coupla stamps*. Think of what it could get you. Well... not much really, so don't think of that.

* Yeah, I haven't really factored in our international brothers. Maybe we can figure a way around that.

send WA entries my way, there's a few Perth boys that could help with judging.

We select WA's best and send over to Oliver or his nominate representative

Each state does the same and we compete for the O&GHBAB Beer-Off Australian Champion State 2005 Award!!!

That way minimal beer is flying round for Aust POst to smash!

WA will adopt Canada as a "suburb", granted with a different climate but the people just seem so friendly!!!!

We could combine it with Oliver and Geoff's Homebrew and Beerfest (http://www.homebrewandbeer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=860)!

You have all the good ideas Evo!

I think the limiting factor is time. I'd be happy to put the results up though.

If you can wait, we could combine it with the Beerfest.

Dogger, you can send as many as you want to my place. I'll put em down (and maybe re-label a few with MY label) for when the beerfest is on. ;)

already said Dogger, Canada is now a suburb or Perth. It's right next to where I live so send your brews here and I'll look after them :!:
