who entered Vicbrew?

Postby chadjaja » Thursday Sep 15, 2011 11:49 am

Anyone here submit beers for vicbrew?

Ran out of time to get everything in that I wanted but still out in two decent beers and one I just want judges notes for feedback on improvement.

A 9 month old Belgian saison
18 month old Belgian dubbel
and for feedback an English pale ale.

:)

Only ever enter comp once a year and usually lose points as I enter beer brewed for me that slightly doesn't meet the style. Still its good to read the judges notes for feedback and a few bucks. Can't believe no one else here entered though?

I think we need a notice board here on HB&B for upcoming events.

I know that AHB post comps, but I don't look at AHB as often as I do here.

I struggle to read that site. The colour settings and piddly little writing just make it too "busy" for me to read without getting a headache.

That's right, you mentioned that. It is a poor design. I don't hang around there too long. It's the elitism and self righteousness there that gives me a headache.

Haven't been on there in quite some time and the last few times were only to search for internet squabbles for some light entertainment.

Not going to bother next year if the last two years are an indication of what we get. Usually you would think the judges sheets are something you can use to improve your brewing practices but I'm finding each year the judges differ so much and actually sway away from the BJCP beer guidelines.....

My Saison was dry.........and that's a bad characteristic for a Saison? Its actually part of the style with the attenuation for this yeast and is desired. That and the same judge said at the top of the page "Lacks yeast character"......then in the final comments actually says "Yeast character is probably spot on"....... :? :?

I've often had beers judged as good beers but not quite to style and I'm happy with that as they are usually tweaked to my own tastes after all. But this year its again all over the place.

My English pale ale to one judge was spicy and herbal as he obviously got the EKG and late and dry hopping with styrian goldings yet another judge wrote "no hop aroma at all".......

Think I'll save my dollars next year and just rely on local brewer mates to give me an honest opinion. I'm just a little disappointed as its not really helpful to my brewing.

3 beers and all three pretty much at the 100pt mark but its the notes I cared about more.

Dr Smurto you are accredited right? Think I'll be sending your more free beer from now on instead.

How much does it cost to enter these comps?

If I don't win the next lotto I hope Dr.S. does, at least we'll get some free judging.

Yes, I am qualified BJCP judge and yes, I have entered the comp.

Will be judging at the AABC in a few weeks time.

It has been one of my biggest criticisms over the years of entering my beers into comps - inconsistent comments mostly from inexperienced judges.
