Queensland Homebrewing Conference - Coming Soon

Postby Brewers Choice » Friday Sep 16, 2011 10:25 am

HI, thought I would post some details about the upcoming Queensland Homebrewing Conference, to be held in Brisbane on 05 November. Tickets are now on sale for the Conference and full details are available at www.theqhc.com.au, but in brief:

Friday Night - Welcome Drinks at Archive Bar for all out-of-towners and those who want to make a weekend of it.

Saturday 9am -5pm - The Conference - Speakers include professional brewers, Champion Home Brewers and Product Specialists, including Chris White, President of Whitelabs Yeasts, in the US, who is coming out especially for the Conference. The conference has been designed to have something for everyone, from the begnners to advanced all-grainers.

There will be sessions on each of the basic ingredients (yeast, malt, hops, water) from an expert; Recipe formulation, using the new Beersmith software; Competition tips and hints; and the highlight of the afternoon will be the Systems war - we will be tasting the results of four different all-grain rigs, all brewing the same recipe in the same conditions, and voting on which rig produces the best beer. There will also be two panels covering how to make better home brew and a wrap-up Questions and Answers session.

Due to popular demand, we will also be running a session on taking your brewing from a hobby to a full time job, with a contract brewer, brewing consultant and owners of two microbreweries all talking about their experiences.

We will also be tasting a wide range of Australian Craft beers through the day.

Beer and Food Dinner - In the evening, there is a separate Beer and Food Matching dinner designed by Matt Kirkegaard, founder of Good Beer Lunches and editor of Australian Brews News blog. 4 or 5 beers and courses to match. After dinner entertainment will be provided by Rory Gibson, Beer editor for the Courier Mail, who will talk about his journey from Beer Consumer to Critic.

And if that is not enough beer for you, there will be after-dinner drinks at 5th Element Bar and Grill. All located on Southbank, and stumbling distance from some great hotels.

Tickets available now at www.theqhc.com.au

3 Weeks to Go!
Just three weeks until the Inaugural Queensland Homebrewing Conference takes off.
Something for every beer brewer and connoisseur - it doesn’t matter what your brewing standard is, there’ll be something there for you.

Start Early
Start the weekend early with Friday night drinks (6.30) at Archive Bar, home of great on-tap craft beers. Meet your fellow brewers and guest speakers for a warm up session.

Brew Better
A packed conference with experts on everything from growing hops in your back yard to setting up your own craft brewery. There’ll be talks on the four basic ingredients, a competition between different brewing rigs, tips for planning recipes and winning competitions, and a whole lot more. If you don’t brew better beer after this, you must have been asleep!

Beers, beers and more beers.
Morning and afternoon tea and lunch is included in the day, but we thought we had better lay on a bunch of beers to soak up all the food! Taste a range of locally produced craft beers and talk to the Brewers while you drink them. You even get your own tasting glass to take home as a momento.

Freebies and cheap stuff
Yep, a ton of freebies, door prizes and give aways. Don’t worry though - we’ll provide you with a conference bag to take it all away with you! Pick up a few good deals as well while you are there.

Fantastic Beer and Food Matching Dinner
In case too much is not enough, after the Conference, head to the Beer and Food Matching Dinner at Decks Restaurant on Southbank, a short walk from the Conference. Just $67, and you’ll get 4 courses and with at least 5 different beers, all matched by Matt Kirkegaard (Founder of Good Beer Lunches). Rory Gibson, Beer editor for the Courier Mail, will entertain us with stories of travel from Beer Consumer to Beer Connisseur. Dinner is open to the public, so come along, bring your partners and friends and have a great night.

See you and your friends there, but you better get your tickets booked now or risk missing out!
