Hi fellas,
A blatant plug follows ...
My lawn bowls club in Melbourne, where my missus is on the committee and forum member Pyssedas Heavy Industrial is president, is having an event catered for by an organisation that helps homeless youth get a start in the hospitality industry.
As well as helping out STREAT, you can also drink some good beer at low prices, such as schooners of Coopers Pale Ale, stubbies of Fat Yak, Coopers Pale, Sparkling, Stout and Mild and a host of other "premium" beers for $5.50. As well, there are the standard CUB offerings in cans and/or bottles and Draught on tap.
It's on Thursday, January 17, at Flemington-Kensington Bowling Club. Things kick off with free bowls - if you're up for it - from 5 till dark and dinner will be served at 7pm. The cost is only $20 (which needs to be prepaid).
Menu is as follows:
• Slow-cooked smoked pork neck with a South Carolina style BBQ sauce and a selection of STREAT’s house-made hot sauces.
• Grilled sweetcorn with cumin and lime butter.
• "Better than average coleslaw".
• Roast potatoes and grainy mustard potato salad.
• Vegetarian option - BBQ'd and marinated Portabello mushrooms.
It's a really worthwhile cause. For more info on STREAT see http://www.streat.com.au
More information about the BBQ is on the club's Facebook page
Pyssedas Heavy Industrial (aka Davydd)and I will be there, so even if you're not going to stay for dinner come past for a drink at 1970s prices (well, almost).
Cheers,
Oliver
