When not to make a mess

Postby Planner » Tuesday Sep 10, 2013 3:52 pm

One night last week I figured there was nothing worth watching on the idiot box so decided to bottle a batch.
I still haven’t plumbed the sink in the shed, so at present am using the laundry trough for beer related activities. SWMBO heard the running water and came to investigate.

SWMBO: Don’t make a mess, I mopped today.

Me: I’m washing bottles with clean water, how can I make a mess?

SWMBO: I’m sure you’ll find a way.

Me: (incomprehensible mumbling)

Bottles capped, labelled and stored. I decided it was too wet outside (it had started to rain) to wash the fermenter with the hose as I usually do, so I carried it from the shed to the laundry to clean it.

You guessed it, rookie brewers mistake. I left the tap open while pouring in 4 litres of water and swirling. Trub and hop remnants over the laundry bench, down the front of the cupboards, into the clothes hamper and onto the clean floor. :?

SWMBO chose this time to come in and ask if I wanted a coffee (guess who didn’t get a coffee).

Do all wives* possess these psychic (I said psychic, not psycho) abilities?

I can definitely relate to that, every time I stuff up, I manage to do it while SWMBO happens to walk into the room. This is also possibly due to the fact that I stuff up a lot!

That's priceless Planner, and yes mine does have psychic abilities.

Every time, that's no exaggeration, I really do mean EVERY FRIGGIN TIME I set foot in my local home brew shop she rings me and says where are you? Even if I leave my pone in the car I have 2 or 3 missed calls when I get back in. Then there's the inevitable "how much did you spend this time", "I thought HB was supposed to be cheap", "you waste too much time on that crap", "why don't you brew something I can drink"... the list goes on.

That's possibly the only half-reasonable question among them ...

Except when you consider the moving goal posts. I brew a golden ale, she wants a LCPA. I brew a northern brown, she wants a cider. I brew an apple cider which she says was spot on, then proceeds to buy a carton of golden ale and the cider sits in the garage for months.

I'm convinced that they're all wired in a similar fashion. SWMBO knows from miles away that I'm in the gun shop, she hasn't yet refined her skills to detect spending in the LHBS.
