milk beer or not beer is the Q

I've been looking at this small story... MILK BEER
http://www.mg.co.za/articlepage.aspx?area=/breaking_news/other_news/&articleid=250519
It sounds more like those fermented traditional mountain drinks that give you the runs in Turkey or India.
It really couldn't be called beer though, could it?
Cheers

According to the article it does contain malt, so it might qualify as beer in the sense that we understand it. No hops though.

I'm not sure I'd like to try it!

Is there any truth to the rumour that Lion Nathan is bidding for the "Lactiwel" milk beer recipe and sole manufacturing rights???
