Dead Kegs

Postby grabman » Thursday Jan 06, 2005 12:40 pm

Just before Christmas my wife and I went to NZ, I had a friend house sit. I had two fermentors ready to keg so they did it for me, wouldn't you know it both are stuffed!!

One froze, fridge must have been up to high and it was touching cooling plate at back and the other they managed to get all the lees from bottom of fermenter in and it just tastes bloody horrible.

NO real question to this I'm just having a bitch, because I've now run out of kegged beer having drained the one good keg last night.

So word of warning don't let none brewers help if you're not there to supervise!!!

INstructions were clear, I even left them the booklet that came with keg setup. I put it down to them not being into homebrewing as much as me and not maybe having same care factor!

Don't worry Andy, it was!

They were despatched to the nearest bottle shop, without passing go, to purchase a carton of James Squire Amber Ale for me. Twofold decision, damn good beer to drink and the bottles are reusable

...and you layed some smack down ?

You're a forgiving man Grab. They got off lightly. Good thing you didn't let them mind your kids.

I think you can save the frozen one by thawing it out and then re carbonating it. (provided the keg is in one piece). As far as the second one goes, transfer it out and leave the trub etc behind clean it out and then re keg it.

Either way you will have to drink it up relativly quickly (won't win any prizes) but it will do in a pinch.

A point to note for future reference as I say to my wife when she wants to help :"And what do you know about it?"

Cheers Dogger, my wife is actually getting pretty good at helping. I give her the sh!t jobs; washing bottles; removing labels etc

I keep all the good jobs for me, actually don't want her to work out how easy it can be, the longer she thinks I'm out there measuring and timing etc the better. If she knew I was just drinking I think she'd get agro with me!!
