What is your favourite homebrew shop?

Postby Koornang » Monday Jan 17, 2005 5:19 pm

Hi

Does anyone have a recommendation/nomination for their favourite home brew store?

Where are they? Why do you like them? Is it the location, range of stock or the advice given that keeps you going back?

Cheers
Andrew

Maybe i am fortunate but my local homw brew shop is great it is called THE NORTHERN BREW and it is located at Wonoona near Wollongong NSW. They have a very good selection of products the owner Alan is very freindly and enthusiastic and the first thing he says to you as you walk in the door is " Do you want a beer" you just gota love that!
FOR A HARD EARNED THIRST THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A GOOD HOME BREW...

Yeah, I'd have to say it's the personality/advice of the owner that makes all the difference. Neil from the Brew Shop at Peakhurst, while the b*stard has never offered me a beer, he does always give good advise in a way that makes it easy to understand.

For me it is worth the extra couple of bucks you would save if you bought your stuff at a supermarket. Try asking a shelf stacker at Coles whether he thinks hallertau or hersbrucker hops should be used with a North German style lager.

I'm with Evo and crew, it's down to the people who run the joint!

I drive past one HBS to get to Westbrew, the one i go past is run by a moron with all the personality of a dead fish!

I'd rather go to Coles and get no advice than the crap this guy dishes out!

As for Westbrew, top outfit. I give them 110%.
Some people say I have a drinking Problem....
I drink, I get drunk, I fall over....
What's the problem?

I think that the most important is range.

After all, the bloke/sheila in the HB store, even though they might know all there is to know about homebrewing and be a great bloke/sheila, is only going to advise you to use and buy what they've got in stock.

To use Evo's example, if you're brewing a North German style lager and the HB shop only stocks saaz, but not hallertau or hersbrucker, what do you think you're going to walk out of the shop with? Not hallertau or hersbrucker

Cheers,

Oliver
