What do you want in a Brewery?

Post by Dogger Dan »

Lets just imagine for a minute that you have won the lottery, (Don't anyone get excited just yet, I haven't) But it is my dream to have a house built for me one day.

This being the case, there would have to be room for the Brewery. Day dreaming as I was today I was wondering what I would need. I came up witha few, gas, water so stove and sink, counter space, storage, maybe a fridge and a tap. Sounds good doesn't it eh?

So take a minute or two if you will and think about what you would want in your own home brewery.

Thanks

Dogger

Without much thought so far:
* A couple of fold-down bunks (attached to the wall things);
* A collection of books - the sort with millions of "useless" facts. This is for the disputed questions like, 'What's the floral emblem of Nova Scotia?';
* A battery chager (to make sure the digital camera ALWAYS works); and
* A disconnected communication device (to the house).
EVERYTHING is worth my interest!

Few more ideas;
*possibly a side room with used beer department to avoid long treks back to house.
*entertainent system of sorts, nothing flash, just a wall mounted plasma with six channel sound etc

What's the problem?

DD,

* Stainless steel or tiles on the walls and tiles on the floor for easy cleaning.
* Air-conditioned.
* Why not a large refrigerated compartment/cool room (as opposed to a fridge) to brew lagers and/or lager and cold condition beer (although being in Canada that's probably not so much of a consideration!).

Cheers,

Oliver

Sounds like a niche market for your new basement brew pub then Dogger.

Anyhoo Dogger, you have a house with a basement. What you build and make in it is entirely up to you. You are halfway to living my dream anyhoo (ie having a basement/shed to convert into a brewhouse).

The world is your oyster. Go on my son !

I was thinking I'd need a couple of rooms all climate controlled to suit different styles of brewing, and a cellar area for long term storage.

Also a Busty serving wench would be good.

i'm all for that last idea Greg, not to say that Doggers brews wouldn't be good, but a bit of eye candy is always nice :twisted: :twisted:

Yeah, that's unanimous. You need a beer wench Dogger. (I like the way this has turned around into "what we want in Dogger's brewery").

...and I'm seeing a pool table with one of those ping-pong tops that go on top of the pool table for when you wanna get a bit physical.

...and maybe an air hockey table, for that authentic Canuck touch.

Actually, if we've got air hockey we could probably scrap the ping-pong top.

All sorted Dogger ;)

Air Hockey, got it and foozball, and darts and the Surround sound, I have a wife and she can pour a beer sometimes. I don't need anymore women unless its one like in the pics here. How many is she slinging? most impressive

I have the two climate controlled rooms, three actually it just depends what the climate is outside. Additionally the house is air conditioning to. Sorry to suprise you but it gets right stinking in the summers here with the humidity (38-40 deg C when factored in).

Its just the kabob shop thats an issue guys really and space. I am thinking the spare bedroom needs to go and maybe the missus can do the laundry somewhere else.

So I guess it is just the Kabob Shop. Geez Evo, why do you have to make things so bloody hard?

Anyway, work in progress folks, work in progress

I like the stainless Oliver

You need two rooms

Drinking Room - For drinking obviously

Brew Room - For Brewing.

and a glass window between the two like a boutique brewery. Lots of stainless kettles, gauges pipes etc, even if they do nothing, just to impress the punters. Just like Evos picture of a Brewery http://www.daking-dom.com/FlowersDraught/AboutUs/

And a big floor drain so that to clean it just takes a high preessure hose.

And a Coolroom

And ...............

Has anyone ever been to the men's toilet at Little Creatures Brewery in Fremantle, West Oz?

The urinal looks out over the brewery (with glass in between, of course).

Would this be possible, Dogger?

I don't know if backing-up for a second round of suggestions is OK, but I wouldn't like, because I demand an invitation to the grand opening. Can we hold it during May/June/July? I doubt I could afford cold weather clothing and an airfare too.

Oliver,

All we have here is an outhouse, and it is overlooking the fish pond.

Rain, It really is warm in Sept and August to, we just make it sound cold so people don't come :wink: (Don't eat the yellow snow)

But yes, we will send invites when it happens which depending on my luck on Friday could be sooner rather than later, although I would bank on the later

Evo, I talked to JK Rollings and she said that yes, Harry could make a Kabob truck magicly appear on leaving.

Judging from what everyone wants here, I need to get going on the garage and then have a walk up from the brewery.

Yes Oliver,

Little creatures brewery is an excellent place and that urinal is something else. It's great just to stare straight ahead (while you're doing the business), transfixed by the magic at hand on the brewery floor.

Dogger,

These are shots of a kebab and the dubious meat.

http://www.turkishbread.co.nz/images/kebab.jpg

http://tierschutz.cc/bilder/kebab/kebab.jpg

As you can see, its basically meat and salad rolled up in flat bread. The ingredients vary - the meat can be lamb, beef, fish, chicken - best one I ever had was octopus. The sauces vary - mayo, garlic, chilli, yoghurt. Additives include (but are not limited to) cheese, onion, egg, tabhouli (sp?), hummous...

It's a foreign (to us) food which has been adapted to ingredients we (Westerners) are familiar with, hence the onion, egg etc. I think they come from Greece and Turkey.

One of the weirdest things about kebabs is the way the lamb meat is cooked - on a vertical rotisserie grill which seems to be left on 24/7. A lot of the kebab shops are open from lunchtime through to 4am - the late hours cater for the pub/nightclub crowds.

The kebabs are virtually a full meal in themselves - meat, bread and salad/vegetables - and they are fully portable, as they come wrapped up in their own paper, sometimes in a plastic bag to catch any overspill. They can still get messy, but one of my mates noted that the only way to eat a kebab without getting the juices down your shirt is to be drunk in the first place. I think that is because you don't care how you look when you are eating it.

The Regatta famously has one of the mens rooms that look out over the dining area. It kinda weirded me out the first time.

Ditch the air hockey and get one of those Chexx bubble hockey games. One of my favorite things to do when I go home :)
