Where does Melbourne need a Home Brewing store?

Postby Koornang » Sunday Feb 06, 2005 4:39 pm

Where would the ideal place for a homebrew shop in Melbourne be, taking into account the population and the likelihood of them being interested in homebrew...?

Is Burwood still part of the 'dry' area? I remember (I think) the Burwood Hotel on Springvale Rd, but there is nothing for MILES toward the North and West is there?
EVERYTHING is worth my interest!

I've got two Homebrew shops within walking distance.

Cheers,

Greg.

Greg,

How do the two homebrew shops go being so close together?

There must be a lot of homebrewers around to support them.

Either that or they're both just money-laundering fronts for the mafia!

Cheers,

Oliver

To be honest I have no idea how they go, but I have not been in and not had other punters in there as well.

I go to the one at Asquith because it is closer (< 2 K's) and open Sundays and has a really good range (think Alladdins Cave) and is very friendly and helpful and has parking at the door (if you're not walking).

After this plug, I should hit them up for a freebee. I have no interest in the shop except that I like having it there.

The fellow at Thornleigh's range is much more limited and he is not open Sundays, but he will sell grain in mini mash size (150gm) bags.

Oh, and both local supermarkets and Kmart have mass market brew stuff too.

Cheers (and so ner) :D

Since I've just started homebrewing about 2 months ago. I've been on the lookout for good homebrewing shops, within a reasonable distance.

The best I've been to in Melbourne so far is "The Grape and Grain" in Maidstone (10km West of the city). Great range, great service and they have a demo mashing+tasting every month. Good stuff Riggers!

Unfortunately I live far out east.

Looked up the yellow pages search on homebrew and there are 17 listings a number of them doubles.

http://www.yellowpages.com.au/search/postCategorySearch.do?headingCode=34630&ul.latitude=0.0&ul.longitude=0.0&bookId=42&serviceArea=true&businessType=home+brew&region=australia&pageNumber=1&rankWithTolls=true&locationClue=Melbourne&stateId=2

Most seem to be out in the
10-15km+ outside the city
zone. I guess you can read what ever you like into that.

Nunawading would be a good place for one
