As you have probably worked out by now, I live and work in a few pretty remote places, so sometimes I even have to put food and even water in the fridge too! The general setup is as follows, while the vehicle is at rest, the solar system operates as a stand alone system, when the ute is running, the frige is switched to the main battery system allowing the solar to keep charging the deep cycle battery in the back, as storage for when the ute is stopped, the two systems are kept totally seperate so there is no chance of interaction with the vehicles engine management system. ( I would sooner have hot beer and be moble, than cold beer and be stranded 500Km out in the Gibson desert or somewhere similar!")
I designed and built this setup about eight years ago, and it is on it's 5th ute now, (This is the second fridge and third battery) so it has done about 350,00Km, and still working like a charm.
(Sounds a bit like the old family axe doesn't it? only had ten handles and three heads in thirty years but it still going!)
The solar panels and regulator are still origional!

My first beer was a warm VB.... awful!

I had nicked it from the neighbours garage, my parents were minding their house as they were away. I kept it in my room until my folks were asleep... and then I drank it from the bottle, sculling as much as I could...

I felt the warm glow of booze for the first time...and was instantly attracted to more of the stuff....Although the actual beer itself was really gross and not something I wanted to repeat...

Oh, and the first "real beer", Tooheys Country Special in the green can. Anyone remember these ? Bloody hated it but forced down a few cans anyhow.
