2008 Great Intercontinental Pub Crawl

Postby Pyssedas Heavy Industrial » Monday Feb 11, 2008 1:22 pm

Long time visitors to this forum will be well aware of Pyssedas' annual Great Intercontinental Pub Crawl - this year to take place on Saturday 31st May.
[Check threads from previous years if you are really bored - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4986 viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2055 and viewtopic.php?f=6&t=404 ]

For those of you who have not been a part of it before the short version of what goes on is this:
The most basic information you need to know is that the GIPC is free to participate in, open to anyone wherever they live in the world, and that through your participation you will meet [online at least] some most excellent people.

The plan goes like this – on Saturday May 31st 2008, people all around the world will go bar/pub crawling as best they can. In 2007 we had 143 venues in 66 cities in 16 countries on all 7 terrestrial continents participating! You might want to crawl with your normal drunken mates or use this as opportunity to meet people from online brewing forums in your area etc. Some places even use the opportunity to raise funds for local charities.

So what do you do if you want to be more involved?

Well first of all tell us the name of city & country you are crawling in – then when you work out what bars/pubs/houses/gutters you will be in tell us that too!

The easiest way to tell us is by mailing us at Pyssedas@yahoo.com
If you want to be more involved come over to the crawl forum at:
http://www.pyssedas.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=12

For those fellow Aussies it is sad to report that last year the South Africans out crawled us - hopefully we can put that right this year - happy to answer any questions that anyone might have

Your right, that site is difficult to read. I don't even see any text :( just floral designs.

I am hoping to participate this year. I'll see if I can spread the word and get some uni mates to come.

Yeah sorry about that Tim - I'm working on it - but i can't seem to log into geocities the way i used to - and the main pyssedas.com page is edited by someone far more techno smart than me which means i can't edit it!

I think the Wig & Pen is our first official Australian venue for the crawl this year!

What are you basing the tally on? Venues or cities?

If venues, I'll add some more to my location if you want. Can't let them krugers win!

And what constitutes a place - does it have to actually sell beer? Or can we crawl to people places that HAVE beer?

Adelaide has yet to be involved in any of these crawls? Is that right? For shame....

Well last year they beat us on cities participating - though we had more venues - its also a little hard to judge as the Victorian leg of the crawl was conducted on a bus that went to 11 towns.

Either way the more cities/towns venues etc the better

And anyplace in which you can drink is acceptable. We have listed sheds/beach shacks/houses in the past as well as licensed venues - let your creativity run riot

Adelaide partipated in the 2005 crawl as far as records indicate

Just put your tap system on wheels, and roll it into a different room every 30 mins, and call it a pub crawl. It at least adds a few pubs for Australia's side of things in the GIPC.

thats no excuse Kev, After a night out on the turps in Perth, i would walk home to maylands and create my own pub crawl stopping at every bar along Beaufort St. It gets quite interesting. Occasionally i wake up having already bought the sunday paper, have a cold kebab sitting on the coffee table and have a few extra glasses in the sink... havent managed to wake up next to anything i shouldnt have yet, but thats not what pub crawls are all about.

Not the dreaded Hornsby Triangle! Too many have lost all bearings in this area and woken up in Penrith... and those are the lucky ones!

I just don't trust the Bluegum.

We at Pyssedas have considered doing a similar pub on wheels type crawl for pubs in Melbourne which have shut over the years - we would sit out the front of the now appartments etc etc and no doubt confuse the bejeezers out of the new residents as we drank to the health of the drinkers who went before us

This sounds quality. Where are Melbournians planning on heading?

I'm thinking about doing a few micros, like emerald hill, bells hotel, mountain goat, then finish the night at the royston. Either that, or a proper pub crawl down swanston street, going to city/carlton pubs.
